Positive step for the Den

Post by DirtySanchez »

The Lion's Den in Juniata is now under new ownership.
Ron Reilly from DragonFire bought it and is now running things.
Looks like it'll be a step in the right direction as he is already installing a full in house PA and lighting. I stopped in last night and he was working on the setup. Looks like it will be a big improvement, and I plan on helping in any way I can to support this venue. I strongly suggest anybody with any desire to build the original music scene (regardless of genre) show your support for this any way you can.

We had a lot of fun doing punk vs. metal shows there. I hope we can do more of those now...it really helps build an audience on both sides of the spectrum...

That is AWESOME!!! I'm really glad to see the local music scene isn't being read its last rites. This area really needs to strengthen its scene more, not just let it die. Letting the Lion's Den die would've been one more hospital visit closer to what might've been the coffin. It's great to see so many people supporting it, and keeping it going!

I heard that the new owner is charging $150.00 up front, per band to play. If this is true, why is he doing that?

The underage scene works way different than the bar scene.

Liquor sales will outweigh Skittles and Bottled water sales any day.

All monies made by bands at all ages shows are made at the door.

Plus he provides the pa and lights. Better than renting a firehall for $300 and a PA for an additional couple hundred. The DIY scene involves more heart and dedication than just learning to play your instrument.

Basically, he'll make $150.00 plus maybe $100 more from games/ snack/ water sales. Now go pay the bills. The lions den was a "split the door" venue where half was taken from the door before any bands got paid.
Contrary to some peoples beliefs (especially on this board) there are some people who do this shit for the art itself.

I highly doubt that it's $150 PER BAND. I would imagine it would be $150 to rent the place and have however many bands play.

This is obviously much better than the 50/50 Kathy was doing there.

I had Much the Same come in from Chicago twice and actually had to pay them out of my own pocket each time despite a GREAT turnout. All because the 50/50 split there took so much that I couldn't make the garuntee I signed.

The new way will pan out a lot better for ALL involved...especially bands.

Hopefully, punk will be embraced there and those kids will start coming out again. It's been a long time since there's been an all ages punk show around here.

Please give me a contact (name not buzz) for this venue!!!

We only get beer and sexual favors, but Scott has a bad liver and "says" his butthole hurts, so we gotta try something.

It's a flat $150 , not per band.

Whoever said that is high.

beans?
When's the next show again?
I'll call off of work for that.

Scott, do you need someone to talk to about your feelings?
Sounds like some gauze, or perhaps some stitches in that battered brown eye might suit you better than therapy.

$150.00 to rent a place that provides the sound and lights? That's a hell of a deal.

At a $5.00 cover you make your money back off of the first 30 people. Now if you have 4-5 bands playing (like they usually do there) I'm sure that in the span of the show you probably have upwards of 80-100 people (could be wrong though +/- ). The bands will be doing a lot better monetarily than they were in the past.
