African Women’s Blog Critical of Resident Evil 5 Trailer

Capcom’s Resident Evil 5 hasn’t even got a release date, but it’ s already drawn the ire of a blog devoted to African women.

Black Looks calls into question the game’s setting as depicted in the trailer, first shown at this year’s E3 in Santa Monica:

The new Resident Evil video game depicts a white man in what appears to be Africa killing Black people. The Black people are supposed to be zombies and the white man’s job is to destroy them and save humanity…

This is problematic on so many levels, including the depiction of Black people as inhuman savages, the killing of Black people by a white man in military clothing, and the fact that this video game is marketed to children and young adults. Start them young… fearing, hating, and destroying Black people.

The point has been made by some gamers as well. In fact, GamePolitics reader Quad9Damage raised the same issue in a letter to GP just the other day.

I was playing GTA:Vice City Stories on my psp last night, as a black man in a military uniform killing.. well... everyone...

Mark the game as Mature/17, if some little kids mommy buys it for him and he learns bad things... well duh bitch, read the label.

Of course, the game box could be totally black with big white letters saying "THIS GAME HAS RACISM, VIOLENCE, DRUGS, AND PANDA RAPE. NO KIDS SHOULD PLAY THIS" and some kid would still get it from "santa", kill his classmates, and it would still be the publishers fault.

Don't feel bad. Everything I say, someone calls me racist. I do admire Archie Bunker, though. I've been collecting All in the Family on DVD. If this show aired today, Al Sharpton would have a heart attack.

You know,... I really don't wanna come off as a totally insensitive asshole on all of this, but let's face facts... There are a LOOOT of movies these days that really do the same thing on the opposite scale and nobody has had the balls on this end of the field to raise Hell about it... That, or we just don't give a damn. Makes me think somebody should watch a bunch of these black comedies that depict white people as maybe a bit more than something to laugh at, something to beat the piss out of, or what have you, or in the case of white women, just some dumb piece of ass slut. If people are that ignorant enough to percieve a detail like that in a horror movie, why are they seeing movies in the first place? Because really, MAJORITY of all movies, especially these days, points the finger at somebody and makes them the laughing stock

This is kinda funny in timing, because I was recently reading in a bit of news where the taboo of black girls going for white guys is being broken more and more these days because, as I recall, black men and black women "can't stand each other"... Go figure!

I blame all of the bullshit on lawyers and political correctness. People feel they need to be catered to, and God forbid they get "offended"...oh shit, here come the suits! Oh, and did I say God? They'll strike me for that too! This society is getting to a point where everyone is offended by everyone, kids are suing parents for correcting them, and dogs are making love with cats! What a society....at least we aren't Germany, they won't allow M rated video games. Once we become a socialist country, then that will happen here too. Here's to what freedom we do have left!
