I've been toying around with an idea of mounting my microphones inside of my drums. Just so it would be quicker to set up and tare down.
My question is: What would be the plus and minus to doing this as far as sound quality and control of volume.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
A question for the sound techs.

Well, at first glance, the pro's are:
Ease of setup. Usually, you just plug a cable into a connector on the drum and you're done.
Isolation. Each mic only picks up the drum it's in, and no others. This gives you a clean, immediate signal. Also, you're less likely to get feedback from the drum mics.
The con's:
Once you put the head on the drum, that's the mic you're going to use, period.
Isolation. There's no crosstalk or "room sound" in the mic, and they can sound sterile and canned.
You have to cut a hole in the drum for the connector and screw holes for the mounting brackets. I don't know this for sure, as I haven't dealt with internal drum mics in years, but that's how it was in the past. It's gotta affect the value of the drum.
That's just what I can come up with off the top of my head. YMMV.--->JMS

Thanks Songsmith,
What I was going to do is make brackets (kind of like the May Mic system)
Then ues the air vent to mount the bracket and run the cable through it.
( My drums are new and have a bolt syle air vent on them. I know the last thing I want to do is dill holes in them. So it shouldn't change the tone)
Also what would be the best mic for this application?
Thanks,
Steve
