Live sound reinforcement

Post by Killjingle »

Just out of curiosity...

Is there one effects (delay, reverb, mod) unit that u would highly recommend for a vocalist for FOH FX? Something moderately priced... I owned a Lexicon MX200 that I thought was a great unit; but I did a deal for a guitar. Anything u think would be extrememly useful to have at a budgeted price?

-thanks

I should have notated that the board has decent onboard FX; nothing to die for... but some decent sounding verb

Check out the TC Electronics units such as the M350, etc. They have good
specs and sound nice. Not overpriced either. Although, Lexicon still has one of the best reverbs you can get! I've used Alesis units as well, and they also have some decent reverbs/multi-effects.

If you are talking about a full vocal processor just for one mic, like lead vocals, check out the stuff at TC Helicon.

If you are just looking for great reverb + one other effect, the aforementioned TC Electronic M350 at $200 is hard to beat.

Lexicon makes the MX series starting at $200, but I have not heard them.

I really liked the verb on the Lexicon 200...

but u know verbs in really big rooms tend to get lost; I used the 200 on my KIlljingle recording (song was KilliforniA) and I loved it; easy to use also

really had no use for the tap delay and mods...

God, I'm starting to sound ridiculous here with all of my really old and cheap stuff, but I love the Alesis Midiverb 3. You can probably snag one on ebay for about 50 bucks.
"well, why don't you make ten louder and just have that be the loudest one?"

".....but these go to eleven!"

I would avoid the TC M300 and M350 like the plague. They suck bad. They sound OK, but the M300 didn't last a year in my racks before it started overheating and locking up.

The MX200 from Lex is nicer, better controls. I would highly recommend a TC M ONE XL or M ONE. The M2000 rocks but is very pricey.

The TC M300 we've had in our rack for quite some time (2 years) has given us no problem whatsoever. We also use Lexicon units. I guess it has to do with personal preferences and the intended application. I've had Alesis stuff off and on for years, and never really had any complaints on them.
