NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS

Post by Jim Price »

I know we're still over two weeks away from starting 2005, but let me be the first to offer a resolution for the new year. In fact, I am officially starting to follow it NOW.

I resolve to give up for the rest of 2004, into 2005 and beyond...

WalMart.

I didn't shop there a whole lot to begin with, but after dealing with their b.s. auto department (I bought tires there two years ago after suffering a flat tire in Ebensburg, and had free rotation for them), I'm through. I never liked the way that place has been putting the screws to local stores and now local supermarkets, either. And I've had a few other bad experiences with them. So I'm announcing my big break from WalMart, effective now.

The only instance when that place will ever see my smiling face again is if I experience an emergency at 3 AM, and they are the only store open!

That's a great resolution!

I try to avoid Wal-mart as much as possible, but I still occasionally shop there. I actually bought my mother's Christmas present there this year. When I was making the decision to go back to college I knew I had to find some type of meaningful employment. The only place around here you can get a job without the aid of nepotism is Wal-mart. I made it to my second interview and never got called back (they claimed they couldn't get ahold of my references; how true that is - I don't know). I was a business student in high school and an IT professional afterwards, so business ettiquette and professionalism were pounded into my head. I was interviewed by about 4 different people, AND NOT ONE OF THEM SHOOK MY HAND. After I did the math and figured out how pathetic the pay was for the bullshit I would have to put up with (I've heard many stories about how they treat their employees; then again, if you can't even shake a potential employee's hand, how are you going to treat one after you hire them?), I decided to go back to playing music professionally. To this day, I feel like I avoided a land-mine.

Yeah Wal-Mart Sux .... I worked there for a year and hated every minute of it, it was funny for my though. I went in filled out the application, interviewed and got hired the same night. About the only advantage of it was working at the state college (North Atherton Street) store and seeing a lot of hot college chicks. I was walking proud the day I walk out the doors for good ..

My resolution is to give up smoking. I am hoping I can do it for more than four months this time ...

I couldn't agree more about the Walmart thing. I say I try to avoid Walmart, but I really don't. Its just so darn convenient! The suits in their marketing department are darn good at what they do,...too good. They already run the business and are only getting bigger. The latest rumor I heard was that they ran Rubbermaid our of business just by ceasing to carry their products any longer. Thats harsh.

That will be my #1 resolution. That, and to become the BEST BASSIST IN THE WORLD!!!

My New Years resolution - I'm quitting clove cigarettes. So if any of you who know me see me smoking my incense after Jan 1 make sure you say something rude to me cause I deserve it. I'm coughing up my lungs here...

Ask Cheese from Suicide Switch about Wal-Mart and their photo staff.2 years ago he had taken pictures at the Barnyard Bash,he took them there to get them developed and they wouldn't give him the photos because they deemed them inappropriate.Since when has Wal-Mart became the morality squad? I know when, since they have there clothes made in sweat shops in Mexico.

Well... since bronchitis hath not left my lungs yet, dmfj has told me to quit the smokes until i'm better...well...i only had four yesterday and so far, none today.... i'm fine until the night comes and the bars are near... but I think if I can do that, then maybe i'll be able to quit for good... ::nudges:: and maybe he will too? ::laughs:: riiiiiight. he likes them things too much to quit. my other resolution is to be a little less tolerant of people's bullshit and not let myself get so affected when someone else is being an ignorant twit.

Wallyworld kills it's vendors. Instead of me creating a product, figuring out how much I want for it, and showing them, when I go to them, they call a meeting of guys like me and say, "Here's the product we want. Who's going to make it the cheapest?" Then, instead of me getting a fair 20% margin, I have to have it made in Indonesia by kids, then sell it to them at a 2% margin. They then mark it up 85% and have folks making $6.00 an hour sell it. Wal-Mart rang up $256 Billion in sales last year, in a mild recession. A quarter of a TRILLION dollars. More income than the next 8 corporations combined. If they were a country, they would place ahead of all third world countries, and many superpowers. It also amounts to corporate welfare, because many of their employees qualify for, and use, Federal medical benefits in lieu of company benefits. Watch for the Frontline show on Channel 3 when it repeats, and the MSNBC documentary... it's mind-boggling. They created a city in China the size of Philadelphia (Dong-Zhen, I think it's called) to service Wal-Mart... ten years ago it was rice fields, now it's Philly east... 8 million people. Amazing.

My resolution? Be 15 pounds lighter by June (gotta look good in that Speedo!), spend fewer hours online and more onstage, and have more fun (maybe even play full-time!).----->JMS

Oh man, I love a good clove cigerette. My friend use to buy those Darium (sp?) Blacks. They always made my stomach a bit sick though.

That's pretty damn ironic.

It's like how Wal-mart carries editted music CDs but still sells uneditted R rated movies. Wal-mart represents the bad side of capitalism.

*gets off revolutionary soap-box and realizes I'll probaly be going there to buy something today*

My other resolution is to get out my job and do what I want to do !!

I'm not going to get into the in and outs of how and why I hate it. Only to say that I do hate it. This year I am going to bid them a fine farewell and do what I want to do instead of what I have to do ..

Flashed me and flipped me the bird?!? Well darling, what do you mean by that middle finger up in the air? Is that an insult or an invite? 8)

(and how many beers would it take to make it an invite?)

I am going to quit trying to quit smoking. I am so sick of trying to quit and failing that I'm adopting a more positive attitude this year. No more failure! Bring on the Camel lights! wow. I feel so much better now.

Bassist 25, talking about how good cloves are is not helping me...Ha!
I smoke Djarums but not the Blacks, I'm hard-core baby...the Djarum Specials (red label), they last like 1/2 hour and are probably stronger than Blacks. I'll smoke Blacks in a pinch, Specials are sometimes hard to find.
