Neither does Beyond Reason. Actually, I just looked at our number of hits and the "ALL TIME" number is less than any in the top 10, now I am depressed.

So we obviously were never bright enough (or conceited enough) to do that.

yeah... i always noticed that a certain band always has 70+ hits the first new day of count for the month. i also know how hard it is to get there and stay there. when i was part of the whole esy thing, we hit the top ten once and emailed the fans in the monthly newsletter saying "help us stay there if ya like us!"... and we did! cooles thing in the world.
the only time i personally condone giving yourself selfgratuitous hits, is when you have no other website but rock page to get noticed.

other than that.. it bothers me if you're doing it to be "top dog" and no one is coming to your shows. ...

When I was with ESY, I hit our site once a day just to check the hit points, and add another one. I did not, however, keep logging out and loggin back in to rapidly raise hit points. I put links in my AIM profile and things like that.

Well dude, I mean, I have never hit our own page. Not unless I was adding something. To me, that is (especially daily) pumping the numbers!!

Since I saw this thread and really thought about it, one thing really came to mind... There are soooooooo many out there (on this site) that respond to each and every post - yet not many have offered anything to this topic. I think Tonefight came up with a good observation - and I would like to believe otherwise, but I certainly believe that most of the "TOP 10" is a complete sham. (just like john kerry)

No really

Post by tornandfrayed »

No really none of the people on Rockpage would do that, I mean hit their site once a day or so to keep the points high and stay in the top ten. No one would do that I am sure!

Look now I am just like GWB, so at least now we have a complete sham and a lying piece of shit!

Who would have thunk it possible!

God, I like politics just as much as the next guy, but does it have to permeate every single thread?

I usually click on our name everytime I visit the site. But does it really matter? Will being in the top ten get you signed to a label? Will fans be more willing to come to your shows, just because you're in the top ten? Will JP write a better review just because you're in the top ten?

I don't have any objective empirical evidence, but my guess would be, "No".

I am not starting any political threads. I think that the conversation has been had and anything else is just rehashing.

MY comment above was in defense of Mr. Kerry.

I think that the main positive reason that a person would want their band in the top ten would be a new band wanting to get some name recognition. Although I don't know that it would do much good.

I'm sorry if I sounded pissed. I'm just tired of constant politics at RP. It's to the point of redundancy; I think we all know where each other stand on the political spectrum.

Honestly. This was supposed to be a different thread from politics. However, it was cute that there was some "sugar coated bashing". I however am getting pissed off at the Bush comments. He's our fkin president. Don't like him? Don't vote for him. Fine. but don't continuously come and trash the man just because you can. And yes, I'd say the same thing about Clinton. Enough is enough and if you want to keep talking politics, then do it on the propper thread.

I'm not going to say that I don't click on our page here when I log on. As a matter of fact, it's probably the first thing I do. However, since we've been gone, we're still getting hits from people that come see us play because we advertise our RP page on the schedules we pass out. Before www.johnandkenny.com came about, RP was the only thing we had to keep people informed and updated.

I agree though that a lot of the bands are getting insane amounts of traffic on them. Oh well....more power to them if they want to click, click, click, click, click to stay on the top ten. ;)
