HOMEGROWN ROCKER 3/30/14 (MAGGIE ANDERSON)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 30 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com). The show can also be streamed via either Rocky website, www.rocky1049.com or www.rocky99.com.

Every February, when the “Homegrown Rocker” represents at the annual Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg (www.musicconference.net), we invite the showcasing bands and musicians at the conference to submit their recordings into the “Homegrown Rocker” dropbox at the conference trade show. At the end of the business conference, we randomly draw one recording from the box, and that performer wins a guest appearance on the program! This year, the lucky artist was northern Virginia-based singer/songwriter Maggie Anderson, and we recorded her interview on premises at the Best Western Premier Central Hotel & Convention Center. This week, that interview aired, and we learned about Maggie, her musical world and career to date. We heard songs from her debut EP plus a newer song that she recorded for the Millennium double-CD compilation set. Along the way, we debuted new songs from David Uosikkinen & In the Pocket, The Semi-Supervillains and Cosette Gobat. We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1976 song by Pittsburgh’s Galactus from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and we reviewed Rodger Delany’s Moment of Truth CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ON THE RUN – “Monsters Like Me”
PAINTED BY MILLIONS – “Come Along”
MAGGIE ANDERSON – “Darling”
DAVID UOSIKKINEN & IN THE POCKET – “Beat Up Guitar”
MAGGIE ANDERSON – “Saving My Pride”
MIDNIGHT RODEO – “.44 Caliber Love”
MAGGIE ANDERSON – “In Too Deep”
THE SEMI-SUPERVILLAINS – “Magic Touch”

HOUR TWO:

MICHI – “Warrior”
RHYNE McCORMICK – “Train”
MAGGIE ANDERSON – “Gwen’s Song”
RODGER DELANY – “Blind”
MAGGIE ANDERSON – “I Want It Back”
GALACTUS – “If I Needed Someone” (1976, Local Music Flashback)
MAGGIE ANDERSON – “It’s All Pretend”
COSETTE GOBAT – “Through Thinking About You”

Since plans for our originally-scheduled guest fell through for next week’s program, we will use the opportunity to empty the mailboxes and check out new music that has arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks! We’ll debut plenty of new tunes on the show, including more leftovers from February’s Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg! Along the way, we will update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and review Lady Beast’s self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Upcoming guests and specials include:

APRIL 13 – THE LUX REPUBLIC
APRIL 20 – NAILDRIVER
APRIL 27 – MATT OTIS

In Local Music News…

A band we introduced just a few weeks on the program, Pittsburgh’s The Semi-Supervillains, announced this past week that they are going their separate ways. The group’s final show will take place Tuesday night at Brillobox in Pittsburgh.

An area musician associated with some of the heaviest-rocking sounds ever to emanate from west-central PA has begun an intriguing new project with a different direction. Ten Million Devils and former Embalmed guitarist and frontman Jason Straw has teamed with Mike Fahy to begin a new project called Damning Tree, which will focus on original songs blending elements of punk, blues and outlaw country. That duo’s debut public performance will take place next Saturday night, April 5 at Around the Corner in Johnstown.

The Bedford County music scene was saddened last weekend with the unexpected passing of Roy Corle from a heart attack. He was 63. Roy was a longtime musician whose career dates back to the 1960s with Dick and the Countdowns, and he performed with numerous other bands over the years; including Nightshift, Flux, Flyer, the Park Williams Band, Three of a Kind and Stranger. Most recently, he was the longtime bass player with Bedford country-rock group Midnight Rodeo. Roy also did musical instrument repair, and sold his own line of SRC Barker bass amplifiers. We at the “Homegrown Rocker” extend our heartfelt condolences to Roy’s family, friends and musical associates.
