Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the March 24 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).
This week’s guest interview came from an exotic remote location, within the shadow of Three Mile Island! Thanks to this week’s honorary executive producer, Meredith Kaminek (www.throughmeredithseyes.com), for the use of her new photography studio in Goldsboro, PA for our interview with Jonathan Spirk and Todd Miller of Carlisle-based band project Mileunder (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mil ... he-journey). Jonathan and Todd gave us the lowdown on Mileunder, including plans to issue the CD Bedtime Stories later this year. We heard tracks from the disc, plus information on how listeners can help fund Mileunder’s project through crowd-funding website Kickstarter. Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 2001 song by Spazim from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed 7th Layer’s The Rise of Abaddon CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

On our next program, we welcome in-studio guests Paragon! We’ll meet the members of this western PA-based hard-rocking force, learn their story, and hear their music! Along the way, we will update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” step “Across State Lines” to check out a song from an out-of-state band or artist, and review The Turbosonics’ self-titled debut CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”
And the “Homegrown Rocker” is available for digital download off either Rocky website after each and every show. Just check on either (www.rocky1049.com) or (www.rocky99.com) and download your copy of the show! In Local Music News…
Singer Jason Eyer and keyboardist David Eyer have announced that they are parting ways with State College-based hard modern rockers Sylex. The two will depart the group after their next show, happening Friday night at The Arena in State College.
Amateur song submissions are currently being accepted for the annual Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest. The contest spotlights original songs about Pennsylvania, its people, places and history. The deadline for entries is May 15, and winners will be notified on June 1. There is a $15 entry fee per song, and entrants may submit up to two songs each. The top three winners will win cash prizes and passes to the annual Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival, being held in June at Quiet Oaks Campground near Renovo. The winners will also get to perform their winning compositions onstage during the Festival, and the songs will be recorded for inclusion on a Smoked Country Jam compilation CD. For more information about the Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest, visit the Smoked Country Jam website, www.smokedcountryjam.com.
And Crazy Fest will be happening again this year. The 23rd annual Crazy Fest Amateur Youth Talent Show will take place on Sunday afternoon, April 28, at 1 p.m. at the Greenwood Firehall in Altoona. Organized and hosted by Dennie Huber, Crazy Fest provides an opportunity for area youngsters to perform their talents onstage in front of a friendly and supportive audience, and compete to win a variety of trophies, plaques, ribbons and prizes. Crazy Fest is open to young people up to the age of 21, and any and all types of talent will be accepted, including singers, musicians, dancers, actors, magicians, and any other talents that young minds can come up with. Youngsters may enter the event for free, and can register by calling Dennie Huber at (814) 942-2516. Admission for the general public is $2 per person, with door proceeds funding the trophies handed out to the winners. Food and refreshments will be available, with food sale proceeds helping out the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company. No alcohol will be permitted or served during Crazy Fest.
