HOMEGROWN ROCKER 2/3/13 (LADIES OF LOCAL MUSIC)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 3 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

We knew what we were up against this week from the sporting world, some sort of football game said to be “super.” Keeping with tradition, the “Homegrown Rocker” offered area music fans (and disgruntled Steeler fans who didn’t want to watch the game) an option; the “Football Widows Special: The Ladies of Local Music!” We spotlighted the talented musical women of this area and state, spotlighting the ladies who sing, play guitars, basses, drums, keys, fiddles, saxophones and other musical instruments on area stages and in area studios! Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 2001 live instrumental song by Screamapillar from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Sucker’s On My Love CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

Here is this week's playlist:

On our next program, we welcome our guest, longtime area singer, songwriter and musician Ron Russell. We’ll discuss his career, hear some of his newer song creations, and also meet and hear from two aspiring singers Ron has been working with lately, Jamie Shapiro and Jose Munrow! We will also update “Local Music News,” dig a song or two from the archive for another “Local Music Flashback,” and review Mason Porter’s Story of the Rifle CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Ron Russell and friends on the “Homegrown Rocker” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

Singer/guitarist James Millikan has left State College acoustic duo Brawny Cash to further pursue his music career in Austin, TX. Percussionist/singer Curtis Ishler has teamed up with a new guitar player, Matt Greer; a name change for the duo is likely.

A new hard rock party band arrives on Cambria County stages later this month. Untyed features former Tie Down guitarists Tim Eckenrode and Brett O’Donnell, along with bassist Bob Gailey, drummer Day Way and singer Scott Bollette. The group does hard rock favorites from the 1970s to present; their first show will be at Magoo’s in Cresson on February 23.

Several members of Mysterytrain have formed a new acoustic folk and bluegrass side project. Moonshine Love features Mysterytrain singer/guitarist Dan Klock, upright bassist Scott Myers and drummer Chuck Bailey. Dave Snitkin also sings and plays guitar. The group plays a mix of traditional acoustic folk, bluegrass and country.
