HOMEGROWN ROCKER 7/1/12 (ALLEGORY)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 1 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to our guests this week, Brittany Berkebile and Josh Maurizio of young Johnstown-based rock band Allegory. Brittany and Josh recently won this year’s third annual “Battle of the Acoustics” competition at Northern Cambria’s City Hotel, and their prize package included an instant guest appearance on this week’s program. We got acquainted with the two musicians and learned Allegory’s story. We heard recorded tracks from the group’s debut demo, and Brittany and Josh both brought guitars and played some songs live for us as well. Along the way, we debuted new songs from Felix & the Hurricanes, Fred Myers & the Redneck Majority and The Hawks Blues Band. We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 2002 song by Pittsburgh’s Angry Trout from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed J.D. Eicher & the Goodnights’ Shifting CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

In Local Music News…

The area music scene will be alive with musical fireworks for the 4th of July this week. State College will feature a wide variety of live music during its annual Central Pennsylvania Fourth Fest this Wednesday. Fourth Fest will feature three venues/stages with live music starting at 2 p.m., again representing a variety of musical flavors. Some of the performers include The Long Afternoon, Seven2Ten, the Hounds Of Soul, Jason Davoli, Riley Roth, Black Coffee, Biscuit Jam, Pure Cane Sugar, AC Express, Tommy Wareham, and a street dance with Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band following the fireworks at 10 p.m. There will be numerous other activities, including the Firecracker 4K race (which starts at 9 a.m.), a B-25 flyover, children’s games and activities, food and refreshments and more. General admission to Fourth Fest is free, although a $10 per car parking donation will be requested. For more information, visit the event’s website, www.4thfest.org.

Meanwhile, the benefit for the Patton Library will take place Wednesday at the Main Beach area of Prince Gallitzin State Park. Admission is free, but donations will be collected throughout the day to benefit the library. The festivities will kick off at 1 p.m., and feature performances from Jerry Carnicella and his Elvis Lives tribute to Elvis Presley, the Beatlemaniacs, Andy Rhody and White Shadow. Food and refreshments will be available.

In band personnel developments, guitarist Chuck Lavera has announced that he has stepped away from State College modern rockers Represent The Lie, citing musical and personal differences.

And although they won’t actually be performing, you will be able to hear Felix & the Hurricanes’ music during this Wednesday’s annual “Summer Thunder” fireworks event at Delgrosso’s Amusement Park in Tipton. The Hurricanes’ song “Coming Home to You,” an ode about troops stationed overseas, will be played as part of the patriotic music-geared soundtrack as the park’s fireworks display is set off Wednesday night starting at 10 p.m.
