'87 Ibanez RG550

Post by metalchurch »

Just got my new guitar today. I bought it from a buddy on a lefty forum.
It's an original 1987 Ibanez RG550 in Road Flare Red. It's super rare and I've wanted one for the last 10yrs or better but I could never find one. It's more like a hot pink to me. It's just like the RG550 in the debut ad of '87 w/ Paul Gilbert.

It's currently being dismantled and cleaned/rebuilt.
I'm going with an EMG-81 w/ 18v and 1 volume. I have a custom black single hum pickguard on order. I think eventually I might just go with a Steve Vai Evolution pup set or a Breed set.
It is such great shape for it's age, I am so stoked over this.
I know it's not a Jackson, Charltor but hey c'mon man it's a cool axe. Hahaha

Here's where I'm at now.

I sanded the back of the neck to remove the imperfections, dents, etc..wasn't too bad, but I prefer a bare neck with a light oil.
I had to do some fret work and I cleaned the fret board up a little bit.

That's a sweet axe, Joe.

Thank you sir for appreciating the splendor. I indeed paid out the arse to get it I'll tell you that. I'm not gonna get all down to brass tacks so I won't divulge the price, but it rhymes with 'eating ramen noodles.'

As you can see I gutted this thing and put in an '81, ....still waiting for the 1humbucker pickguard, then it will look alot better. But looks don't make 'em go, right?

I have an '87 Kramer Pacer, and an '87 RG560 coming soon, so I'll be posting pics of those as well.

Thats funny man, I've never heard that one before. The Kramer is in transit, and on time. I'm gonna stop by my buddy's and pick it up after work today.

I'm getting an '87 Ibanez RG560 in Lipstick Red next week sometime, or when he gets back from vacation.

Have my eye on a Charvel 475 Deluxe as well, so I'm hoping that goes through.
Also in the process of building a USA Strat, which will be all Black with a Maple fretboard. (but that might change, cause I'm sort of undecided as of yet)
Adam Sandler, gtfooh...
