Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the April 22 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).
Once again, it was time to clean out the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes on this week’s show. And that meant debuting a lot of new songs from local and regional bands and artists! This week, we debuted tunes from On The Run, Sandlot Heroes, The Show and Tells, Kriki, The Civil, Marty Rakaczewski, Synesthesia and Instead Of Sleeping. Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1995 song by Pittsburgh’s Defiant from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” stepped “Across State Lines” to hear a song by Baltimore’s Roll It Over, and reviewed Norman Nardini’s Bone A Fide CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

In Local Music News…
The area music scene received sad news this week with the passing of Tom Johnson, one of the founding members of longtime rock-and-rollers Stillwater. Tom passed away after an extended illness on April 14 at age 59. Tom sang and played guitar with Stillwater, and was also a former teacher.
A new double-disc retrospective set about the State College music scene is set to be released later this summer. Now and Then: The State College Music Scene (1968-2012) will contain 40 songs from the past and present of the Happy Valley music scene, spanning rock, folk, country, blues and more. The set will feature a “Then” disc covering acts from 1968 to 2000, and a “Now” disc featuring acts from 2000 to the present. The set is being produced by Daniel Collins, and will be issued by State College-based indie record label Apache Records. Proceeds from CD sales will benefit Happy Valley Cares, an organization dedicated to helping victims become successful survivors of abuse through education.
And Pittsburgh blues guitar great and recent “Homegrown Rocker” guest Jimmy Adler will represent western Pennsylvania next winter at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, after he and his band won last weekend’s annual Pittsburgh Blues Challenge, sponsored by the Blues Society of Western Pennsylvania. The Jimmy Adler Band won best band honors at the Blues Challenge, held last Sunday at the Clarion Hotel in Pittsburgh’s Greentree section. Miss Freddye and Greg 'G-man' Castille won the duo competition, and Cheryl Rinovato won the best blues guitarist honors. Altoona’s The Hawks Blues Band made their first appearance at this year’s Pittsburgh Blues Challenge.
