Original-friendly venues?

Post by grimmbass »

Brothers and sisters,

As you know, Lies, Inc. has slowly been making its way back onto area stages as a completely original band (i.e. no covers, save for special events like Rocky Horror). It's been a few years since I've been on the "indie" scene booking original shows with multiple bands. We've made some really good friends, namely good folks like Naildriver and Rain Must Fall, and we're hitting the usual spots (i.e. Aldo's).

I'm looking for any suggestions on original-friendly venues in our area of PA or beyond (we'd LOVE to do more out of town gigs). I've heard that Around the Corner in Johnstown is also friendly to originals as well.

Any suggestions would be welcome and most appreciated! And to other original bands in the area, regardless of genre: we're into swapping shows!

Looking forward to hearing from you....

The Venue Of Emerging Arts (V.O.M.A.) in Johnstown is an all ages venue that has original and cover acts perform. It is in an old church across the street from Ace's Lounge on Chestnut Street in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.

Adam Mundok runs V.O.M.A.

Yeah, we're very good friends with the folks at VOMA and we've played there several times! Thanks for the suggestion though....any other places jump to mind?

It may be a bit of a haul, but the Hard Rock Cafe in Pittsburgh has some local original bands.

Hell, if you're coming to Pittsburgh, almost every venue is original friendly.

You might try The Arena in State College. They stage original shows from time to time, usually 2-3 band shows. Good one on tap this Friday with Absolution, Graces Downfall and Burden My Surrender.
