Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the April 24 edition of Rocky 99 and Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com) and WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).
Thanks to our guests this week, Stevie and Chelsea Moses of young Hollidaysburg rock trio E.V.K. (And thanks to their father, Dave Moses, for the use of his F.U.P. Recording Studio in Hollidaysburg for the recording of this week’s interview!) We learned the story of E.V.K., including the fact that their band name is the initials of the late Eric Vincent Kelly (“Fat Vinny”), who gave the group music lessons, jammed with them, and was a major inspirational force in the young musicians’ lives. We heard several songs from E.V.K.’s forthcoming full-length CD, Fat Vinny Was Here, and the siblings also performed a song live for us as well! Along the way, we debuted new songs from Allegory, Riley Roth, Halestorm, Transitshop and Nodd Morris. We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1998 song from Eric Vincent Kelly and The Lodge Lizzards for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Scorched’s Frozen CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

In Local Music News…
VOMA, Johnstown’s Venue Of Merging Arts, staged the finals of its first-ever Battle Of the (Original) Bands last Sunday night, with finalist bands the Southside Strays, Allegory, Hot Mess and Savanna Dawn performing and competing for a grand prize $250 demo recording session at VOMA’s recording studio. When the panel of seven music industry judges rendered their verdict, it was the sweet harmonies of Somerset County-based sister group Savanna Dawn that captured the top spot. Congratulations to Savanna Dawn and hats off to all the finalists; be listening for music from all of these groups on future editions of the “Homegrown Rocker.”
John Charney is putting the finishing touches on the next Wine Of Nails CD. That album is currently being recorded at the VOMA recording studio in Cambria City.
In band news, Lies, Inc. will be returning to live stage action within the next few weeks. The group will introduce their new vocalist, former Nitekast singer Lily Taylor. Watch for Lies, Inc. to open some show dates for other bands around the area as they re-emerge on local stages.
Several seasoned area music veterans have assembled a new hard rock group. 4-Play will feature Jamie Shumac on drums and vocals, John Buterbaugh on guitar, Chuck Mason on guitar and vocals, and Big Jim Ricotta on bass and vocals. Watch for 4-Play to emerge on central PA stages this summer.
Live music will again be a part of the upcoming 4th annual Pints For Pets Brewfest, a fundraiser for the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society. This year’s microbrew-sampling event will take place on Saturday, May 7 at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona, and will feature two sessions, the first running from 1-4 p.m., and the second from 6-9 p.m. The Beagle Brothers and The Good Seeds will perform during the first session, and Tree and Yellow Lady Slipper will play during the second session.
