Strat Wiring

Post by felix'apprentice »

Ok, so my pick gaurd is all wired up minus the .047uf capacitor, i have a capacitor number codes chart that says i can use a 47nF .... needless to say out of all the capacitors i have, i dont freakin have this one.

can i use something else??? a smaller/larger capacitor size?

and if someone has a .047uf capacitor i could buy instead of ordering 10 of them from pedalpartsplus id be forever greatful. thanks!!!

Different size capacitors will change the amount of high end you roll off with the tone knob. You can use whatever size you feel like and the guitar will work, you just might not like the sound of it.

For all practical purposes, a 47 nanofarad capacitor is the same as a .047 microfarad capacitor.

nano=9 decimal places
micro=6 decimal places

move the dot 3 spaces in .047 and you get 47

The .01 and .02 caps are used on humbuckers because they allow more brightness to come thru. As I recall, the Texas Special has a bridge humbucker and that's why they spec'd a lower value.

If you have 3 single coils, you want to stay as close to that .047uf as you can. I wouldn't go below .033uf.

If you have a bridge humbucker, you should wire its tone with a .01-.02uf and wire the mid/neck tone at .047.

Most Radio Shacks stock the .047uF ceramic caps. There are a few RS stores around here, pick one and call to see if they have it in stock.
