Hello all, I was just wondering any drummers out there how you got your start? I've been playing bass for over a year now, and even though I love it alot (I'll probably never quit) I'm getting the itch back to learn how to play drums...(and it would really come in handy too) I don't have the best income right now, but I would love to learn. Any ideas? Suggestions? I don't have any drum equipment either..poses yet another problem, but ::shrugs:: like I said I would love to learn..I'll be interested to see how many people reply.
Wanted to play drums from a young age but could not convince my parents to buy me a set. Went to the local music store and bought a pair of drum sticks and worked on the whole hand/foot coordination. Used to sit in my bedroom with a Led Zeppelin CD using a pillow as a drum and tapping my foot on the floor. When I finally did get a drum set it came pretty easy. I had been playing for about a year and met a bass player from the old school and what he taught me was invaluable. "You don't need a 50 piece drum set and you don't have to play a million fills in a song. Know where the one is." Sure do miss that guy. Good luck to ya.
I was about 20 years old and i was keeping a beat on a skoal snuff can with two pencils. I always loved music (never thought I would play it) and my best friend played guitar so I figured i would give the drums a shot. I've been doing it ever since....About 9 years.

But I also believe that you need to have a burning passion to be a musician before you can become a good drummer. You need to desire to add your part to the group and become the heart and soul of the band. The best (musical) drummers are ultimate team players.

sounds like good ideas, I've sat behind a kit a couple times, and I'm finding a hard part is I can keep rhythm until I try to do 3-4 things...2 things i'm fine, but when it gets to adding a 3rd i lose it :/ guess I should maybe get a beginner's drum book or sonmething.
