Am I missing something here?

Post by JackANSI »

It makes me wonder.. Am I missing something?

I mean, its a power cord. It takes ~120v AC @ 60hz and carries it to the amp. If the wiring before the cord is crap (comparatively), what could this cord possibly do? In a switching power supply in some newer amps, you are practically isolated from the wall anyway. Almost all amps have standard 12-16ga wire of at least 9-12 inches before you even get to the power supply (be it transformer or switching), so even after the "golden cord" you've got comparatively crappy wiring.

If I'm missing something please tell me...

I've just lost a bit of respect for everyone on their "endorsing artists" page...

I sent this to them for some clearification:

"First, I'm wondering why you don't have a money back guarantee?

I see on your custom page a 18" cord from a PDU to what looks like an Eden amp. I still don't see how 18" of cord will make any difference when there is an unknown quantity of wire before it. Your FAQ didn't really address this at all, I mean there is no scientific data posted. You should be able to measure a difference and show that difference on something like an oscilloscope.

Do you offer anything with a Neutrik PowerCon end and if I replace my cord from the wall to my PDU does all my rack gear gain the effect of the cord or does it go to waste?"

Glorified power strip has a shipping weight of 12 lbs. Hefty....unless
they throw a couple of rocks in there to boost shipping costs.

RS,

Get Victor on the horn. Ask his what he's thinkin'.

its a product for people with more money than brains.

Specifically for people that think that the electricity coming from their walls is some kind of newfangled magic.

"Your questions:

1. First, I'm wondering why you don't have a money back guarantee?

2. I see on your custom page a 18" cord from a PDU to what looks like
an Eden amp. I still don't see how 18" of cord will make any difference
when there is an unknown quantity of wire before it. Your FAQ didn't really
address this at all, I mean there is no scientific data posted. You should
be able to measure a difference and show that difference on something like
an oscilloscope.

3. Do you offer anything with a Neutrik PowerCon end and if I replace
my cord from the wall to my PDU does all my rack gear gain the effect of the
cord or does it go to waste?

Answers:

1. We do offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you are dissatisfied
with your MusicCord or MusicCord-PRO power cord, you can return it for a
full refund, minus return shipping expense. Based upon your comment, I will
have the 30-day guarantee be more visible on our website. For now, you have
my word.
2. The cord is designed to be a filter. Also, it is designed to work
with a variety of various audio gear and ac mains. You can use MusicCord
with an extension cord or inexpensive power strip and still get the
performance improvements. In a front-of-house setting, you would be hard
pressed to hear a difference with MusicCord being plugged direct into a wall
outlet versus into a power strip. If you were in a controlled environment
such as a recording studio you could hear a difference, so you would want to
plug direct into the wall outlet if possible.
We have learned that talk and company literature are not
very effective in convincing the majority of customers. Instead, we have
focused on getting independent evaluations via trade journals and artist
endorsements, and demonstrating the products. You will likely see more data
presented as pro-audio publications review the products in the coming
months. Many are skeptical of everything, but you should know that
Essential Sound Products does not pay any endorsers and simply is not in a
position to influence trade journalist if we wanted to. Frankly, we have no
desire to do so. Experience is everything. Once a customer hears the
difference, they're sold.
3. We have looked at PowerCon connectors, but decided against using
them for now. The reasons are we prefer the consistency of the crimp and
solder process we use on our molded plugs and connectors, and our molded
connectors have better strain relief. If PowerCon had a molded
specification, we would probably tool it and offer our products with them.
As far as I know, Neutrik does not have a molded specification.

Thank you for your interest. Please contact me if I can further assist you.

Best regards,

Michael

I've left a message with Ant (Anthony Wellington), Victor's bass tech. He should know.
