Gear coming to me (pic added)

Post by SpellboundByMetal »

Hey everyone.
I ordered my rack stuff yesterday. this is what i got:

A Gator 8 space rack case
Samson Servo 200 watt power amp
Furman M8L power conditioner
Behringer V Amp Pro w/ Midi controller board
BBE 362 Sonic Maximizer

Total $810

Its a rack setup on a budget, but i think itll be GREAT! I still need a noise gate and a tuner, but I think i have everything else covered.

My buddy Joe (metalchurch) just put a DiMarzio Evolution pickup in my Schecter C-1 and I LOOOOVE it!!
I cant wait to use it with the rack setup.

Any suggestions about the gear would be cool. Except "Return it". hahaha

Line 6 is overrated! ive used the pod. its ok.

Oh yeah, and btw every review i read, the V amp Pro beat the Pod. Sounds and price, cant beat it.

Your V-Amp should have a built in tuner and a noise gate that can be
programmed/used with your midi controller (check it out).

As I was telling Soundman8199 at GCTTM on Saturday, I never liked Behringer stuff until about 4 years ago. Then, all of a sudden, they started coming up with some really nice stuff really cheap.

$170 is cheap for a rack mount midi modeler that sounds good (gulp, $140 for a B-stock, full warranty...duh).

A tube preamp will work great with an analog, solid state preamp/FX, but using one with a tube modeling preamp is like wearing the patch while smoking. It gives a whole new definition to muddiness. Even when I tried modelers with tube power amps, it didn't sound as clear as with regular PA power amps. My Roland GT-8 simulates the best tube power amps anyway with lots of Dyna settings.

For the money, there's nothing wrong with your setup, although I wouldn't bother with an outboard sonic maximizer.

You already have a noise gate and tuner in the V-amp.

What cabinet/speakers are you putting this thru?

I don't have any experience with the V-Amp, so I can't really comment. All of the people I have talked to say that it's a quality unit. My main concern would to make sure that it has seamless switching. It can sound unprofessional to have a "lag" in sound when going between patches during a song. Most amp modelers sound a little too "digital" to me, but that's just my own personal preference, not an issue with objective quality. My love/hate relationship with Line 6 is pretty well-documented on other parts of this forum.

I have a ten space Gator roller-rack which replaced a six space CNB (SKB clone). It's a very nice unit. My only compliant is that there are pieces of metal on the bottoms of both panels that slide into locks on the bottom of the rack. They're a PITA when I set my rack on top of my cab and am taking the panels off. I have to shift my rack forwards and backwards to take them off. I'd remove them if they were screwed in, but unfortunatley, they're riveted.

Sounds like a cool setup.

PITA is right. You can fix that by adding 4 rubber feet to the Gator where it sits on your cabinet (feet are standard on SKB cases). This also takes care of any problems you might have with cabinet hardware interference.

Each foot requires:

1 #10 x 1" panhead machine screw
1 #10 hex nut
1 Oversized #10 flat washer
1 #10 lock washer

gear coming

That evolution really livened up your sound alot. The pinch harmonics really rip through now. Your new rig should sound great. If not then sell it and get MARSHALL!!

spell!! yea i know what your talking about with those pods. they are junk. but just like anything else you usually get what you paid for. i like there line of amps. not the spiders. they are jusk also. the fextone hd147 and vetta amps are just crazy. just dont buy any modeling equipment cause you want to sound just like _____. use it to find some really cool sounds that reflect your style and build from it.

Gotta back up the Spiders. Got one on a whim to use on occasion and the
thing is great. Just got it, mainly for smaller places, but it's the main thing
now.

I've used everything; Mesa, Marshalls, Fender, Randall, TubeWorks, etc.
The Line6 Spider with the FBV4 Controller has been one of the best
investments in gear I've ever made. I was extremely hesitant and knocked
anything regarding modeling amps since they've come around and thought
that at the price how good could it be, but I was wrong. This thing changed
my mind quickly, at least insofar as L6.

Granted, I loved the old '58 Tweed Bassman, but it was too loud, too much
to pointlessly lug around and too much like an investment piece to carry
from one bar to another.

Congrats on the new setup. Hope it works great for you for many years
to come.

man if you like the spider then you should check out the hd147 or vetta. but then again its all just a matter of opinion. to me the spider sounds like your average amp ran clean with a stopbox infront. the others sound more like hard driven amps. ive been using the hd147 for about two years now and still love it to death.

cant wate for the show spell. sometimes it can feel like there arent so many people there cause the bar is around the corner but it is a very cool place.

Interestingly, just before I read this I was checking out the HD147 on
Line 6' site. 'Cause everyone needs more gear, huh? Oysh.

That's very cool. Always interested in people's thoughts on gear and
how it works for them.

We check this guy on EBay who sells these old Harmony, Kay's, etc.
Does some work on them and has little videos of him playing though
this little Blues Junior. All these these sound phenomenal so we've
come to the conclusion that A) He's a wiring genius or B) His Blues
Junior is the greatest sounding amp in the history of mankind.

When I got the Spider I went to the "Metal" channel and thought "Ya,
I'll never use that". But, sat for a little while and worked up a sound
that actually gets used a good bit.
