Interesting thought for the religious people out there:

Annogram for Santa: Satan.
Santa's main purpose? Making Christmas about gifts and diluting the true meaning of the Christian holiday, which is quite the satanic act.

Of course, this does not confuse Santa with the real St. Nicholas, who actually did give gifts to children and did a lot for spreading good amongst people.

Neutral. Most people don't even think of it as Christmas, just X-Mas, so what the hell.

Until about 120 years ago (out of 2000 Christmases), it was just a holy day, no gifts, no nothing. Now it's just a consumer-spending aphrodisiac. I enjoy giving people gifts, but it gets to be too much, and I know kids who flat-out expect to be lavished upon.
The whole keep-Christ-in-Christmas thing was big on talk radio last year... it's a surefire way to play to the Conservative/Elderly/Religious base. I'd rather keep-funding-in-public-schools. Bah humjob.------>JMS

When Jesus was born is actually unknown. For many years it was believed that it was
in August some time but there seems to be an idea that it was late-September now.

It was moved to the end of December because there were other holidays at that time.
Even now, you can go different places and celebrate Christmas on different days (Orthodox
Christmas is in January).

Originally, in Puritan times and prior, it was teated as just another day because the idea was
that EVERY day was to be celebrated as God's day. Anything ostentatious was heretical.

Christmas today is a commercial endeavour, nothing more. I am agnostic (Grew up Southern Baptist) but have Christian friends who believe that the "Christ" factor needs to
be removed from the holiday because it's offensive that "His" name is being used to sell
and that most people who defend the religious aspect have no idea, and take no part, in
it's celebration.

I think I remember one of my friends (who is rather large into paganism and the like) tell me that Christmas (December 25) is actually a Pagan holiday...That doesn't explain why it's set then but, well this was already said so this post is just one more to my count.

Yer right, Dec. 24th/25th was a Pagan holiday (Some astronomers believe it used to be one of the shortest days of the year so held meaning). Also,
since Christianity is so heavily-based in Judaism, who celebrate Haunauka... in whatever way you want to spell it...at about the same time, it made sense for early Christian leaders to place the holiday there.

Easier to convert some people if they see less chenge in their lives and
don't want to be the only ones on their dirt street NOT celebrating.

Is really interesting how many Pagan rituals influenced Christmas (The
Christmas tree! How pine trees and egg-laying rabbits worked their way
into the two biggest Christian holidays is truly God's greatest miracle! Made THOSE PR moves work? DANG, THAT'S POWER! Not mockin', just
levity).

december 22nd is the winter solstice. Perhaps it has moved a few days in 2000 years though?
