Ninetail is a national act now? lol or should I have noted sarcasm? ahaDirtySanchez wrote:Bump.
Come to Aldo's Friday.
Ninetail, The Embalmed, Fedup
My mom and my wife will both be there. Dad doesn't like Metal though.
5 bucks at the door. No ticket presale.
No washed up Nu-Metal here, but feel free to wear your parachute bondage pants and "Can't Sleep Clowns Will Eat Me" shirts anyways! Maybe J Ninetail will sign it for you since they're a "national act" now. lol
Seriously though, be there and do shots with my mom.
Just curious...what are the going rates these days?

So this post has turned into a bashing session towards me. Well let me note some things and answer some questions. First in regards to Feelgoods "lack of promotion" - I agree 100% there was a lack of promo and fliers, but it wasn't because there was a lack of fliers made. Most management or labels send ALL promo to the venue, not to the promoter (me). I did hit up UPJ and IUP and FYE in Jtown and Indiana when posters were sent to me. It was VERY frustrating going to the venue on the day of the show and seeing all the posters, fliers, etc still sitting in the office. It's also frustrating when you have two BAND WHORES who ask to be street team and promise they will flier the town and surrounding towns. I say band whore becasue these two girls only wanted into the shows for free to hang with the bands and really never did anything. They said they put posters at specific places then I have bands tell me that there are no posters at those locations. Now to why they are band whores...at a certain Johnstown show, one of these fine ladies was found in the green room blowing a "D" list guitar player. At the time she was found, the guitar player was in mid load blow...all over her shoe! Other examples of promo gone wrong was one time when I offered the local Johnstown rock station 4 Jimmie's Chicken Shack tickets to give away however they wanted...I was told I would have to pay them in order to give the tickets away...ok, weird. Then there was the time Ill Nino's management wanted to set up a radio interview with this Jtown station and then Ill Nino would sign a guitar and give it away. The radio also told me that since I did not buy ad space they wouldn't let the guys in for the interview. Then there were the times we did buy ad space and give the station tickets to give away only to find out that they were offering them to staff members and not promoting the free ticket giveaway. Lastly, I once had a minimal $100 to run ads. This would have bought 4, 30 seconds ads. When I approached the station they basically told me that my money wasn't good enough to even bother with running ads. I'll take all the blame for the bad promo because I was the person putting on the shows and it's assumed that I'm the one to blame.
Now to Matt and Mike of TDH. Since you brought your issues towards me over a public forum, I will reply about these issues over that same public forum. You asked earlier why some asshole blacklisted your band. Since I'm that asshole, I'll answer. First MATT, before you came to be the singer, TDH had another guy singing and only played ONE house party before playing decent shows that I was putting on. So I would like to think you guys got a pretty nice start for being a new, unknown band. I'd like to see you have as much opportunity elsewhere trying to get on bigger shows yourself without being known. I was the one who gave many Jtown bands a break into the Jtown scene (if there is any scene). I put you on the shows at Ace's and at Around the Corner and Too Loud Festival. Then you say how you guys are trying to build "a metal scene" at ATC. You guys latched on to what I started and tried getting other Jtown bands (who had nice followings) to play with you guys cause you couldn't bring your own damn numbers into the place. Fuck that...I put that bar back onto the radar. That place had about 6 people on any given Friday or Saturday. It was a ghost town in there. I forked out huge chunks of change and made that place a nice known original rock/metal bar. I put MY PA and light system in there, I paid for the sound guy, I paid the nationals, I paid for promo. That bar sat back and did nothing but make hand over first cash. I asked that no bands use my PA unless they pay $150 and I would provide a sound/light guy for the night to run them. I then find out that bands and djs were coming in and using ALL of my stuff. ATC denied all of it, but I had solid proof it was being done. People who were there and know about PA systems would call me and say that that band on that night would be plugged into my PA. DJs and karaoke people were also using my speakers without asking or paying. I also asked the bar if they could pay the local bands...yeah, I was looking out for all of you guys. The bar said they couldn't pay any bands a flat fee. I worked on them until they at least gave you guys free drafts. It was my idea to hang all of the signed shirts of the bands on the wall. It was my idea to turn the storage room into a greenroom for bands. That place had NO CLUE what to do and how anything worked. I went to the bar and asked if they could give me a percentage of alcohol sales or a fixed fee per tickets that came in since I was doing all the work, fronting all the money, and taking all the risk. I was told that they didn't make money on my shows, they only let me do them becuase they were "fun". Well, let me tell you about the Mistress Juliya show where they claimed $1600 in alcohol sales...that is what cash they claimed. We all know they made more that night and other nights. This was also the show where the "manager dude" told me they only made $400 for the WHOLE DAY. Then that shit hole bar canceled a national two days prior to the show. I explained that I was under contract and I could get sued and held to paying the band either way. ATC basically told me...OH WELL. So, that was the last straw and I yanked my PA out and asked ALL the bands that I stuck my neck on the line for and gave them an easy in to ATC to PLEASE not play at ATC. I was looking for some loyality and support. Well, guess who the very first band to throw away any loyality was...THE DEFINING HOUR. So now you "f" mouth me and wonder why I could care less to work with you guys.
Need more examples...how about these: Yes, you sold a nice amount of TLF tickets...you were actually forth most sold, not third! You can all bitch about selling tickets, but you do get paid for every ticket sold and selling tickets is how your slot is decided. You also get to each bring one free guest per band member and they to can drink the FREE beer I provide in the VIP area. Bands who have played in previous years are given the later slots and first time bands are given earlier slots. Those given slots are based on ticket sales, but even if a newer band sales more than a vet, the vet slots are still set. So, you guys sold the most of the "new" festival bands. Earning you the SIXTH time slot. That must not have been good enough cause you guys (or someone in your band) acted as if you're entitled. Other bands were coming up to me and telling me that someone in your band was bitching about your time slot and that you your guys deserved a later slot. Then there was the whole guestlist thing...once again acting as if you're entitled and don't have to follow rules and set guidelines. Guestlists had to be in on a specific day. You guys thought it was ok to turn things in late cause a certain guitar player couldn't get his shit straight. It wasn't a real big issue, but it did hold things up. All other bands had their stuff in on time. And my last example is regarding that same guitar player and his drunken attitude during an Ace's show where he was pissed cause Ace's wouldn't give him FREE beer after finding out he wasn't one of the national acts. So he approached me with an attitude and bitched a little about the situation. Yes, some of these issues might not be due to you, Matt or Mike. However, your band is represented as a whole and I blacklisted you guys cause I wasn't wanting to deal with the "rockstar drama". Maybe you were unaware of these issues, well there they are. As for not being on the TLF this year...the TLF slots haven't all been filled. However, I had no intention on asking you guys based on the whole ATC issues. That place f'ed me over big time and I simple asked for some band support. That place is back to being a ghost town and they are relying on a select few bands to try and help them pay their bills.
Maybe you guys also didn't know that I submitted your bands name along with other local band names to an indie label that contacted me asking if I had any good bands. Maybe you also didn't know about all the times I submitted your band's name and other bands to venues Like Mr. Smalls, Rex Theatre, and Peabody's when they were looking for openers for nationals. All those venues make you sell tickets, so I would have probably been viewed as an asshole for trying to get you onto "those" kind of shows.
When you all put your neck on the line for a $5000 show and have bands not sell their PROMISED amount of tickets after begging and begging to play the show, then maybe you can begin to understand why I get a bit angry for trying. This isn't pointed towards you guys, TDH. It was simply a statement towards other people/bands who always bitch about me having a presale policy. I simply ask all those bands to try and get on a national show at Peabody's, Mr. Smalls, Rex, Croc Rock, etc. and see how their policies work then get back to me.
There it is...all out in the open. Some will still talk shit on me and tell me to leave this forum. Some might have more insight into things that I didn't have control of, etc. React as you all may.

You can say what you want about TDH but all I can respond to is what I know about that you have mentioned about our band. I will respond to what you have posted with my side of the story. I'm also sure Matt will have something to say too
Besides every band I've ever tried to get booked down there I've either been friends with or made friends with. Do Twisted and Used and The Embalmed bring people? Sure. Are they some of my best friends, damn right.
Our first show we did down there after your falling out was TDH, Fed Up and Condemned Existence; I believe we had 50+ people through the door. Not bad numbers for Johnstown, and coming off a six months break from shows like that.
All in all I think both sides of this are glad to not being dealing with each other anymore. Good luck.

We had only played TWO other shows because we had only been a band for about a month or two at most. Plus where else in Johnstown are we to play when you have Ace's and ATC locked up at the time. We were still in the process of going out and meeting other bands making friends and booking shows. Thanks for what you did, you gave us some shows. Appreciate it.JayBird wrote:First MATT, before you came to be the singer, TDH had another guy singing and only played ONE house party before playing decent shows that I was putting on. You talk about us latching onto bands that have followings, why do you think you had as many people as you did come to see some of the shows with those terrible unheard of bands? You would try to book the same bands at almost every show to bring people in, for the exact same reason.JayBird wrote:You guys latched on to what I started and tried getting other Jtown bands (who had nice followings) to play with you guys cause you couldn't bring your own damn numbers into the place.

You're right we didn't know that. I've learned a long time ago if you do a favor for someone and they don't know about the favor then what good is it. Try speaking up next time.JayBird wrote:Maybe you guys also didn't know that I submitted your bands name along with other local band names to an indie label that contacted me asking if I had any good bands. Bands like ours need a place to play in Johnstown, period. Doing one of your shows at Ace's every 6 months isn't going to cut it. I checked around with a lot of the other locals bands before going to ATC. Asking them if they thought we should. The majority of them said 'Yes we need somewhere to play' So we went ahead and did it knowing you'd be pissed at us, also knowing we wouldn't be doing anymore of your shows. If you can't understand why we needed to find a place to play in Johnstown then that's really all I need to hear about why you are in the business in the first place. We were just the band that took the initiative to go down and do it.JayBird wrote:I was looking for some loyality and support. It wasn't me, if it was said guitar player he is no longer with the band and I apologize for that. If it was Scott, Matt, or Luke you'd have to ask them.JayBird wrote:Other bands were coming up to me and telling me that someone in your band was bitching about your time slot and that you your guys deserved a later slot.
Please see above, no longer with the band. I know our band is a whole but I'm not here to baby sit. I cannot control the actions of other people, try as I might.JayBird wrote:And my last example is regarding that same guitar player and his drunken attitude during an Ace's show where he was pissed cause Ace's wouldn't give him FREE beer after finding out he wasn't one of the national acts. +1 to Harry and everyone else who mentioned locking the thread. I'm glad Jaybird had a chance to speak his peace and defend his reasoning. Even though I disagreed with you on venue rates, it was not my intent to bash you in any way, Jaybird. At least A LOT of the posts were constructive (i.e. a lot of people were expressing their opinions on the issues rather than calling names).

lol.
You get the PA, and he gets to keep playing Around The Corner.
And you can't come within 1000 ft. of Too Loud Festival.
Court is adjourned, bitches!
Ps. Am I the only one who wants the number for that street team girl?

Back to the highjack,
As far as the local "scene" shows go, promotion leaves a lot to be desired around here. There are hardly any people that pay the local bands (unless your band is from Altoona or State College) and most of them don't do a good enough job of getting the word out. I realize some of that is on the bands, but, like someone said earlier, a bulletin post on myspace the day before doesn't cut it. That's why you're called "promoters". Get out there and promote.
(Note:This comment is not aimed at any single promoter, but more of an overview of the area's music "scenes".)
