If you want to talk about asinine laws - Here in Houtzdale, you can get a citation for walking around in a group larger than three people, because it's considered a "gang". I for one am glad about this law, because I was always scared to go down town for fear of getting hit by a stray bullet due to all of the turf wars between the Houtzdale Bloods and Crips.

I've only been to Houtzdale once, and never again will i go there. I had to drive through the ghetto, and someone stole my rims when i was at a stoplight. I got held up at the 7-11, and i made the mistake of wearing red in Crips territory, almost caught a bullet with my right temple. LMAO

HEY...you talkin' smack 'bout my
homies?

Dude, you SURE you've been to Houtzdale? There's a Uni-Mart
and a Snappy's, but no 7-11...OH,
you're being funny..."my bad"...
sorry, I don't have a sense of
humor...I "know nuthink" as a matter of fact...and it seems the ones who know EVERYTHING think 1. calling an INSANE Muslim a "Raghead" makes me "Racist" and no, I'm not a Bigot, just pissed off! 2. that they'd have to miss a day of work if we boycott gas stations for one day (HINT: It's called a "full tank of gas", the day before!...the employees would get paid, either way...it wouldn't be 100% any way...it sure is great to IMAGINE people Peacefully doing something about the way things are, for once.) 3. thinks we are "safe" because there have been no more attacks on American soil. Nimrod, do you happen to know how LONG Atta and the others planned 09-11? There were bombings in London last week and they were warned about them, but were the citizens warned? Nope. There is no proof tying Iraq to 09-11...
NONE! There is LOADS of proof that 09-11 could have been prevented and it was allowed to happen to use as the excuse for the current war...money is being made though, so it's okay.
"WMD"..."terror", were the excuses, not valid reasons, it turns out. Kerry gave his speech all those years ago, because that is what he believed, due to the information provided to him! Had he personally BEEN to Iraq at the time? No, so DUH! Well, where ARE the WMD? Remember, there had been a UN presence in Iraq (The "Blue Berets".), we were enforcing the "no-fly" zones, ever since Bush Sr.'s WRONG Iraq War, which also slaughtered roughly 100,000. The numbers then and now are known the world over...deal with it. A reason NOW given for INVADING, is that we were "helping" the people in Iraq...if we're helping them, I'd hate to see hurting them. Saddam was evil, but it seems he obviously kept those nuts in line...the people should have removed him...it was not our place. What country is next? ...and then?
4. that I have no knowledge of the last, over 250 years of our Nation's History, including the struggle for Civil Rights, and a wise man so very eloquently voiced my thoughts again, on ALL the Rebel Flag has stood for, "HISTORICALLY". That word doesn't just mean "during the Civil War"! The Slave Trade, Human Bondage, Human Beings being used like animals - yes, I aver that was ONE of the "reasons" for the War...not the only reason, I've always known that, condescending, patronizing cretin. I "don't KNOW anything"? BITE ME! The KKK is alive and well, as are Neo Nazis and Domestic Terrorists who CALL themselves Americans and are more horrifying to me than any foreign threat...AMERICANS blew up the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City, killing men, women and children, never forget that. Not that it's okay, but I can understand someone from another country "hating" us so much...but my fellow Countrymen and women? Unreal and very scary. We need to be united, not divided. There is a house in Tyrone that flys the Rebel Flag next to, but "before" the American...I'd love to know why...we have ONE Country.
I've lived in the South and the Rebel Flag cakes being sold next to the American ones were really "cute" for American Holidays. I know, as is said to me all the time up here in Houtzdale, "you ain't from around here, are ya"? ;-)

For those who can't sleep due to noise of any kind...I'm a very light sleeper myself, the slighest noise and I'm awake...sometimes, when I need to catch a few zzzzs, I use earplugs, GOOD ones...they are sold in the Sporting Goods section at Wally World and have been Orange or Green. They work GREAT and if you're using an alarm, you can still hear it...or set the radio so loud, you WILL! ;-)

-------------------
I was born in the 60s, grew up in the 70s and suppose I'm sort of a Hippie - I do LOVE tie dye! ;-)
I've seen my share of DEF or is it Death Metal...the Malevolent Metalfest was a blast, saw Slip Knot when I took my kids to the Pledge of Allegiance Tour and the only DEF/Death band I ever saw that I didn't really care for was "Mushroomhead"...<sorry, Chris!> Maybe it was just that particular show though... 8)

Sorry YankeeRose if you thought I was say'n ya was a racsit cause I wasn't! :) l.o.l.

I don't think we are "completely safe" at all,and as a matter of fact I think we may feel the effects of a nuclear blast somewhere in the world in the next decade or two! Man let us all pray it doesn't come to that! I am very worried about our own people in this country who are so radical that they could commit terror attacks against all of us! I will never in my life time forget about Oklahoma City that is for sure. Anybody who ever thought that something as bad as 9/11 couldn't happen here was foolish to belive it. The commuter planes as it turns out were the perfect choice of weapons for such terror attacks. Duh !! Why didn't our government ever stop to think that these assholes might acctually pull off an attack of this magnitude? After all it isn't like we have a shortage of huge skyscrapers and commuter planes with thousands of gallons highly explosive jet fuel buzz'n around everywhere! I do know our government had intel on this matter in the past and had done nothing about it! Yes I totally agree that it could have and should have been prevented ,but it wasn't and it is a damn shame that something that terrible had to happen to make everyone realize how great the threat was and still is! I just feel "safer" but not completely safe know'n that security is much greater now and that there are way more watchful eyes within our nation! :D
A person is getting along the road to wisdom when they begin to realize that their opinion is just another opinion !

As I stated, one never knows "which way we may be going" when a Post is made...besides, we ended up in a lot more places than Iraq...and WHY did anyone mention being a Democrat in the first place? It wasn't me!

psst...Ram Z...you only called me a "hypocrit" after mentioning
"racists"...I guess I just don't know what the word hypocrit means...it's OKAY though...and it's not Muslims in general...I don't think of them all that way, honestly...I just don't happen to like the INSANE ones, like Osama...the "Zealots" and "insurgents"...BUT, just LEAVE IT "ALL" BE - no "explanation", PLEASE!?! :-)

BACK TO THE TOPIC: Mow grass, use weed whackers, leaf blowers, have a bunch of your friends over to "help" do yard work...GREAT idea!
They can't do JACK SQUAT!

Ram Z...I like the "mortars" idea,
LOVE fireworks too...used to buy a crap load in Ohio ;-) - it only works in the boonies, though...but if someone is shooting AT your house because of "noise"...watch your back...they are CLEARLY whacko.

Hey.. the thing I don't like about Houtzdale is this... their children. Working up that way I've seen more cases of physical and sexual abuse than I've seen this way. There are some families that the fork in the tree is so close to the botom that the branches grow straight. That we have children beating each other up or bringing army knives to school (because one of their real parents is off fighting the war while mommy is screwing uncle joe-schmoe <and this is true...dealt with it> and the other kid is going to get stabbed because they got a high test grade or because they won't have sex like their 5th grade brother or give head like their 4th grade sister....)... Houztdale is to kids with broken homes what Portage is to heroine addicts is to what johnstown is to failed education is to what altoona is for kids with guns/gangs is to loretto is for drunks is to what they are in gallitzin/ebensburg for racist or snobbish (yuppies) is to carrolltown/patton for being backward is to anywhere, pa for being so close to deliverence movies that i don't want to visit again.

every town has it's major problems. every town has its different flavors... Like I said about Gallitzin...back in the day...if you were black, you were driven out.I've yelled at more "old people" in my life for speaking like a racist (or behaving like one...mostly they only talked like one)...spent some of it being humbled because they were right about certain individuals.... but ya know something..... it all boils down to one thing:
People are people. There will always be gangs. There will always be drug wars. There will always be imbreeding. Their will always be abuse. Always be ignorance.

As for being racist. We're all racist. There are black people and their are Nigs. Their are white people and then their are Nigs (still, white, but act the same way the "bad" black do)... I have a mean Italian guy in my family who always calls himself a Daygo... isn't that bad slang? I don't mind foreigners...but I'm sorry, I will only trust them as far as I can throw them. Are they bringing more drugs into this country? Are they going to steal something else? Are they going to bitch about healthcare they don't have or the income they won't get because they're too lazy to hold a job? I'm terrified to find myself in a past situation with one. All of this grates on my mind. If that makes me a bad person... or a racist...then i think the lines are screwed. And so am I. because we all are racist to a certain degree...and there is no PC way about this.

Heys Bag! I'll watch Jones mow for ya...will even let him weedeat...and will make sure that he doesn't do anything "funny" to your property or garden gnomes for a beer!

Next time somebody threatens arrest over a noise violation, say three words, and these three words only:"Do your job." The cop knows what he's up against case-wise... most district justices I know would laugh this out the door of the courtroom. An arrest, which is a big deal, means paperwork and court-time to an already overtaxed system. The cop himself would need to show up for this one, and I've seen cops get asses reamed for stupidity like this. This cat was playing tough. Bluffing. Respectfully call his bluff, and if he comes back, use the word "harrassment."---------->JMS

I can understand how and why many people feel the way they do, but Esa is right, it has nothing to do with the color of a person's skin.
I've met people of all races, creeds and colors. I've known ONLY rotten white people in my lifetime (Including financial marrow sucking "caucasian" Vultures: the owner of a used car dealership and an ex fiance.) and many of "my own people", would stab one another in the back for a dollar. My mother, born and raised in the boonies, is as racist as the day is long, but my dad, who was born and raised in Pittsburgh (Because of what was done to their business in the 60s, his Mom and Step-dad were also extremely so.), put it all in perspective for me this way: a Black Medic nursed him round the clock through an almost deadly case of Malaria while he was serving during the Korean War, so in reality, if it weren't for a Black man, I wouldn't be here! :)

Yeah I wasn't worried that they were actually going to make an arrest, I'm just saying the practical way to handle it would have been to say, "You know guys, try to keep it down a little," instead of being complete and utter egotistical assholes. But judging from past experience with the Altoona police force I guess that is to be expected.

Esa is SO right about this place.
I'm a single mom...no "Ken" here, LOL and even when I was married to their Dad, I was "The Lone Parent". He is 150 miles away and it wouldn't matter if he was around the block. I can't help but wonder if Esa had my one neighbor and her children in mind? I went to her one day, as her 2 youngest boys (6 or more kids by ? fathers and she is now a Grandmother, too!) were making it so my son was afraid to ride the bus, due to them threatening, cursing and finally hitting him. Me giving him rides and picking him up wouldn't have been a problem, but even then, I didn't have a car...her response to me? "Tell the Principal". Nice.
I did, Guidance too and they took measures, but it didn't last long. At least they didn't hit him again...these kids are a lost cause. They've stolen money and toys from my house. If it was my kids, I'd have paid back the money.
At least we recovered the toys...
an older child gave them back. My one good neighbor, whose kids are pretty much like mine, is moving to Altoona this weekend and oh, how I'm going to miss them and their children! A few years ago, I went to a "workshop" regarding bullying...my son said, "Mom, I don't want to go". I asked him, "why not"? He said, "I just can't do it, I can't be mean". Bless his heart, he thought he was going there to learn how to be a bully! He's going to be 8 soon and looks years older, as he has always been one of the tallest boys in his class...maybe that's why he gets picked on? He finally started sticking up for himself a bit this year, but I can tell it's just not "in" him to hurt anyone. He's just an innocent child and it makes him sad when someone is mean to him for no real reason. Honestly, the day I leave here will be one of the happiest of my life...when my daughter graduates next year, I'll weep tears of joy for so MANY reasons!

Yeah, we moved up in the world when we got that Snappy's. I stop there and get slices of pizza. Of course, Houtzdale's biggest claim to fame is the prison. It probaly brought a grand total of 10 jobs to our economy (majority of the faculty was transferred from other prisons).
