Dirty-- HAHAHAHAHA....beyatch! thats hilarious, haha. right on.

Ken- you might want to put a muzzle on that bass player of yours. He is stepping into a world neither he, nor his mom know about.

Metal may not have the biggest crowd on RP or this area....but we stick together (hopefully) ...and are very passionate about what we do. Metal is a lifestyle, not a weekend party/chick finder. Its in your blood, it becomes a part of you.
Light shitrock is just a soundtrack to whatever. With metal, we give more and you get more. Thats why its loud, agressive and annoying to your precious little ears that love harmonies.
I like way more music than metal, but metal is my life. I would NEVER be in a non-metal band.
ALL bands should unite to remove the dividing line. I would play with any band. Metal or not. Why wouldnt the non-metal bands do the same?

100 percent agree.
SpellboundByMetal wrote:Light shitrock is just a soundtrack to whatever.
Cracking on other genres just because you personally don't like them is not a good way to do that, however. Not a flame, just a fact.
SpellboundByMetal wrote:Metal may not have the biggest crowd on RP or this area....but we stick together (hopefully) ...and are very passionate about what we do.
We've played to chairs before and will again, for sure. But, whether there’s five people or 500 people in the audience, I know that the four guys in bad daZe are very passionate about what we do and deliver the same EN_ER_GY for each size audience.
SpellboundByMetal wrote:Metal is a lifestyle, not a weekend party/chick finder.
Keith, I think you missed the point of a previous thread. When a club books your band, it does so in order to provide customers with a reason to show up and spend their money. Ask any club/bar owner around and I guarantee all will say they book entertainment to increase traffic and boost sales. None do it out of the goodness of their hearts, simply to “support live music.” They wouldn’t be open for very long if that were the case.

The band members and crew are employees of the club for the night, whether you like it or not. They are there to help the club prosper for the night. Our goal is to deliver tight, EN_ER_GY-filled sets, make sure the register is ringing, see to it that the people have a good time, and that they come back again the next time and bring friends. Dancing girls (whether they’re shaking their asses, moshing, two-stepping or flailing around like retards) translate into guys showing up and buying drinks, which translates into more dancing girls and more drinks sold and progressively bigger crowds. If a band attracts a close to equal amount of male and female fans (which is why diversity in musical style is a good thing), the customers are doing the “chick finding,” which is what is supposed to happen.

If a musician/band is in this for a “weekend chick finder” or to satisfy his or her own personal musical preferences, then it should come as no surprise if gigs — paying or otherwise — are sparse. For us, it’s a business first. The reason: We are there to entertain. If a band doesn’t deliver for the club and its customers, it doesn’t get booked back. We’re there second to build fan base so that hopefully, when we enter new venues, the crowds come, too. Some places (Altoona is a good example), it takes longer to build that crowd than others, but patience is a virtue and quality sells.

I’m confused by these two statements in your post. If I wasn’t gigging now and a metal band with a plan needed and singer and was interested, I’d be right there.

I’m all for joining forces with other bands of different genres (our “Hastings” benefit last year, for example, featured 13 acts, each one a different style, some original, some cover). We're working out some shows now with The Opposition — an all original act.
SpellboundByMetal wrote:ALL bands should unite to remove the dividing line.
For this to happen, those who may feel they are more legitimate than or superior to others must accept that Rockpage and the local “scene” are made up of all styles of music, each as legitimate as the next.

I'll also go forward about the chicks/getting laid comment by stating that I've met a lot of great women on gigs. I almost have to do that there: I'm either in class or in work all week. Gigging is my social life. I'm talking about legitimate women, not stupid groupies that just want to date a "Rockstar". Rob and Satan are married, but I would bet that both old sKool and I have met the majority of the women we've dated in the past few years through being in a band. Again, that's not going out and getting laid; that's meeting actual women that we've had varying levels of relationships with. So yeah, I would say that I meet women on gigs, but it's more out of convience than "Hey, I think I'm a rock star!" I'm a pretty introverted guy off stage, but I do get noticed up on stage. I really can't help that.

Ive been resisting to post the last two days. But finally RP has some great music threads and most of the debate has been fantastic, except for some of the usual culprits.

Nah, they just make the most noise (irony) on here and its a select few.

Bonsell hit right on the head by starting the "music is music" thread. We all like what we like. Bashing other genres just makes you ignorant - take the hint spellboundbymetal  Most agree its ok to not like certain genres - I myself dont care for metal or any of its forms. Youre not gonna here me say anything derogatory about it though. Some of the musicianship is first class, but its not pleasing to my precious little ears anymore.

Try this one - Im in a band, youre in a band, so what.

Im no cooler than you are I. Were all in the same biz coming at it from different angles and different genres. One word to tuck away for future reference - RESPECT

BTW....I love it when chicks shake those pretty little asses and give me that beautiful smile. Hells yeah!

And remember boys and girls (sorry in advance to the musicians) DRUMMERS HAVE MORE FUN!

Image

Oh shit....I almost forgot to shameless plug our show at Burgis tonight for those truly sick of metal - comeon out and try something differnet with the Nightcrawlers.

Out out!

oh bassist_25 - you know you're a rock star, get over it hahahahah

if you guys werent rockstars, snickers would have come through the doors at one of your shows and said "Hey, stop making us look incompetant" and would have started throwing York Peppermit Patties (taste the sensation) at the people, because they're cheaper and taste like ass..

this post has no real purpose.. just to lighten things up, but let me finish off with this..

Maybe if someone's sick of metal, they should dig deeper. I've got one word for ya: Coinmonster.
Watch them do 2 songs, and you're back home trying to figure out how the f*ck they did that, that fast, and that tight.

Or dig deep into something you never listened to before, and I'm not saying checking yet another punk-pop band, I'm saying go dig up your dad's records... better yet ask your pap what he likes. You trust your pap, right? Your dad's bands were likely either old school rock (which was still very raw and controversial, even when I was a kid), or country, which has all the sneer and passion of punk, if you look past what you think is hokey (Hank Sr. never got to be 30 years old, and regularly washed down his pills with rotgut mixed with pine pitch, which is mildly hallucinogenic, and not so mildly poisonous. He made Sid Vicious look like Bugs Bunny.) Your pap has had many years for history to bear his music out. I see it in my band's audience all the time... the old-timers always ask for some great music, without fail. The other night we had a request for Carl Smith... that's honkytonk right there.
Listen to Closet Chronicles, Sunday nights on Q-94, 10pm. It's a largely undiscovered jewel in local radio. Okay, you probably know a lot about music and bands, but not as much as the Professor (gee, I wonder why they call him that?). The show features songs you've heard, true, but also stuff that hasn't seen the light of day in many years, and was likely NEVER on the radio before. Jim Price has a long history of bringing obscure and important music to the airwaves, dating back to All Night Album Rock on WFBG-AM in the early 80's, and is quite good at it. He's not just a pretty face, you know. :)
If you're tired of metal, or any other genre, nobody has you in a chicken wing, listen to something else. If you're jealous that metal gets too much attention, put out a good product and promote it. If it's good, they will come. If it sucks, they won't... but that's not Rockpage's call, it's all you, baby.--------------->JMS

That is why I have a vast cd collection.

If I get bored of something, I will put in something else. I have everything from Slipknot to Rush, The Beatles to Panic! At The Disco, King's X to Queen. If you're tired of it, put something else in or pick a different band to go see.

It's that simple.

I don't know how people listen to just one style of music anyways.
After a show or a practice I'll listen to some HankIII or Johnny Cash, just for a change of pace. Just no bubblegum, but if thats your thing do it,and I'll do mine.

I like bacon cheeseburgers so everybody should eat bacon cheeseburgers. If you don't eat bacon cheeseburgers you're lame and probably smell funny.

ps- Jimi Hatt-thanks for lettin' me jam last week. I had a blast. You guys rocked the house as always. And yes, plenty of hot chicks were dancin' & that's ok by me! Kind of looks like I need to hit a Nightcrawlers show as well. Thems some perty girls there too!

ps#2- lonewolf, I don't know if you now everything but you did a fine job on the ADA. It's still runnin'!

ps#3- thanks DMFJ03 for still rockin' the old sKool quote. Sweet!

I'm not jealous of the attention metal gets, and I'm not a closed minded punk fanatic, I don't even really listen to it anymore, it was just an example of a genre of music, that I do enjoy, that has plenty of room to bash if anyone felt the need.

what I am sick of is the lack of respect for non metal music by the metalheads.

I'm not a "fag" if I don't like metal, I don't have "no balls" if I don't like metal. I just don't like it.

my balls don't tell me what kind of music to enjoy, my ears do, and I guess thats why I'm not a fan.

It doesn't really matter how good the metal bands are, I'm still going to walk out of the room shaking my head and holding my ears.
It doesn't mean that I can't respect talent when I see it, its that it doesn't matter how good you are, I'm never going to like it.

And I'm talking about whatever style of metal I seem to be talking about here, I don't know what its called, and I don't really even want to, if there's a band around here that sounds like Iron Maiden, somebody please tell me because I'm going to go out and see them the first chance I get.

lack of respect?????? DID A METALHEAD POST A THREAD ABOUT THE CRAP YOU PLAY???? NO
you have no respect and its good that way. I dont need anyones respect. Im not on a mission to be loved by every guy that plays guitar. You either like me or not. If its not because of the music i play, its because you think im an asshole. I can live with that.

I want to say one thing in defense of myself and my metal head friends.
We don't care if you don't like our music and if you don't like metal we don't think you are a pussy. I have plenty of friends that don't like metal and they are definitely not pussies. I don't rip on their music and they don't rip on mine. We have something called MUTUAL RESPECT.
Something that has been lacking on this board for some time.
Granted you may have been upset by a few people but don't nail all metalheads to the cross because of the actions of a few.

Pharaoh, and to a lesser extent, Icarus Witch.

20 years ago you had the likes of of Fatal Maim, Slammer, Thin Ice, Assassin, Rapid Fire, Hanover Fist... (many more) to choose from on any given weekend. (sigh).

Hey Bobby, I'm doing well! Wow, I didn't know about the Maim reunion, but that would have been great to see. Anybody who likes Maiden would love to see Scarfone galloping on the bass like Steve Harris!

If you hustle out the door right now, Icarus Witch are playing at the Hard Rock Cafe in Pittsburgh tonight along with Williamsport's White Witch, and Stronghold (who have a phenomenal guitar player). They have some other Pittsburgh area shows scheduled in coming months too (they are from the 'Burgh).
http://www.icaruswitch.com/shows.html

Unfortunately, Pharaoh (members from Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, & Philly) rarely play out. You can check out some samples of their music at:
http://www.solarflight.net/music.php

Another Maiden-like band is Division, but you would likely have to travel to MD/DC to see them.
