Well some have interesting names, and some have cool avatars, and some write interesting opinions, some have "interesting ideas"( gag) of politics and some invented and maintain this whole mess and are wothry of a vote one and all

But my vote goes to the Ol Professor, who can always be counted on to sooth the agravted, educate the ignorant and generally keep things mellow

Here's to you Jim.

I have to agree with Spellbound by metal on this. I can barely believe that this thread exists! I did get a good chuckle out of it though! How about the next thread as "who has the coolest hair on Rockpage?"

I really am starting to understand why things are the way they are around here.

Oh well! Peace!

Jesus Christ, you people bitch about asinine things. I'd hate to see if you had to deal with a real issue.

I could not agree more! Well said! That is what I have been telling people! Don't settle! Create a scene! Make it exciting! If you try hard enough you never can tell what might happen! There is magic but maybe you have to believe!

I am really on board with this one Rob! We are about lifting people up and telling them that the only thing that limits what you can do is you! And the scene is exactly what we have made it, we can change it though, we can make it vibrant, we can make it whatever we want!

I'm a post whore, but I couldn't care less if my opinions are popular.

You’re missing my point. I am satisfied with the “scene.” It’s working just fine for us, it is vibrant and I know it’s working just fine for others on this board. If you’re not getting out of this scene what you’re looking for, you have a few options:

Take a hard look at yourself. Analyze what you’re doing, be honest with yourself and decide if there’s anything you’re doing that could use improvement (business plan, targeted demographic, quality of product, etc.),
Bitch and moan. Decide that your bread and butter — the fan base — is stupid, ill-informed and unknowledgable about what good music is, then complain about it. This plan, by the way, if you’re looking for any level of “success,” will get you absolutely nowhere, besides playing for wives and moms, or,
Hit the road. Take your product somewhere else and give it a whirl. Who knows? Maybe there is a glass bubble around Altoona and these people think differently than all the other people in the world. My guess, though, for those who value my opinion, is that people are people, no matter where you go.

Well of course not because you are the Black Sheep, a respectable position in any group. I should know, I am the BS in my family and proud of it. I think you are cool, and agree with many of your opinions! Still want to meet you...
We are about lifting people up
Well thats exactly what we are doing by complimenting those whose posts we enjoy! Chill out everyone...don't turn a pleasant thread into something negative AGAIN.

Thanks for the kind words songsmith but you're still not going to see my boobs anytime soon. You rock, and made an old lady feel good. Yes spellbound may not understand what it is like to be complimented when you're an old lady. We like it.

How the hell would you know, You've never been anywhere

If you've never been farther away than a couple car ride for any considerable length of time, what do you know about what goes on in other regions of the county Jack shit that's what you know

It;s not just music it's a lot of things, it's politics and economics too, why is it that Johnstown is pulling in jobs and industry from out of town when Altoona is much easier for trucks and trains to get to, I'll tell you why...it's this unspoken "keep the status quo at all costs" thing around here, it's insane.....

even the johnstown thing is getting resistance, think about it, this factory will bring jobs and money and benefits to hundreds in this area but all of a sudden these mysteriuos fires keep popping up, I wonder why?

There are what 3500 students at the Altoona campus, why don't they have an impact on the music scene, or on the economy or even on local politics? Why, It's the same in Huntington, you've got Juniata college up there Where are those kids, and why aren't they being served by the media and the music scene, Dude I did radio up there for almost 2 years and you'd have thought the college didn't exist by what was being programmed and advertised. You'd think greed alone would inspire somebody to put a music venue close the Junita College or the Altoona Campus but where are they?

It's this "keep the status quo at all costs" Central Pennslyvania thing, that's never spoken of aloud and as somebody, who has lived in another region, I've experienced the reaction, sombody comes in from out of town and says "Hey, here's a suggestion..." I don't even think most of you know you're doing it, but you've been hit with it so many times that spitting it back out is like a reflex

Well Fuck you all, I'm not drinking the cool-aid, I'm not wearing the sneakers, I'm shaving my head and playing tamborine at the airport!!

Things are fucking odd around here, and I'm gonna point that out to the last wheeze of my dying breath and then I'm gonna come back as ghost and haunt you Status quo seeking muthafockers !!!!

Not from a musical standpoint, from a personal one, but it may very well fit with what Vin was saying, for me it's had to do with being an outsider. Most people are afraid of change and no matter how GREAT a concept is, if one of their own didn't come up with it, if a :gasp: "newcomer" did, well you can just "fuhget about it"! Also, most people are afraid of that which they do not understand. :) All I've had to do up here is say Sheetz or Ames instead of Sheetzes or Ameses and I'll get an odd look and hear, "you ain't from around here, are ya"?

I'll even give a "for instance" of some of what I've had to deal with...the PTO, Football Booster and Soccer Clubs...I brought my idea up to first 1, then another and was met with a "look" and told it would be considered, but it never went any further. How many Sports Events sell canned Soda at the concession stands? Up here, all of them. My idea was clearly marked Trash cans, for Aluminum cans only. When recycled at that volume, EASY Money for these Clubs that is just being thrown away.
I've noticed it being done since then at other schools. I'm fairly confident that if a lifelong resident of this area up here had brought that idea up all those years ago, it would have been done. OH! It's November, roughly SEVEN MONTHS until my daughter graduates and I can LEAVE here! Does anyone now wonder why I go from this town as often as I can? I feel welcome anywhere but here.

I had written a post a mile long about negativity, social circles, supporting local acts, and perceived social rank within a forum. Screw it.
My friends can PM me if they want to discuss something, otherwise I'm going into lurk mode for awhile, aside from Upcoming Shows (business is business).
See ya.------------>JMS
