Geoff Tate
Bruce Dickinson (or, as he was called in Samson before Maide, Bruce Bruce) :P
Joey Belladonna (with Anthrax when they first "made it")
Chris Cornell
Robert Plant

I saw Shinedown at Crowbar in February, and that guy does a helluva job, too - not in the league of the aforementioned, but a really cool voice - the guy from Alter Bridge, too.....

of course, as for frontmen, there is only one... look to the left of this post... :D

If we are talking performance wise, and stage presence, i would have to say the ex-lead singer for creed Scott Stapp has awesome stage presence (yes, i know im gonna get ripped on for this) but he has one hell of a stage presence, while every song was going on, you could feel that guy all around you, it was crazy. Also, stage presence, i would have to give a little respect to some newer artists as well such as the lead singer for 3 doors down and chad kroeger from nickelback. I saw them in concert last year and they both put on one hell of a performance. They arent anything special as singers, but as frontmen, they let you know they are there.

Another guy, vocally and stage presence, that i would have to say puts on a good show is the lead singer for this new band thats out, Submersed. I saw them in concert with alter bridge at the rock jungle in pittsburgh, and he really suprised me, he has a higher pitched range with a really smooth low end growl, and a very melodic in-between. There arent many singers that are coming out from new bands that i can really say any of this about, so i have to get the props in when i can for bands that i really like.

The leaed singer for shinedown is o.k. They killed "Simple Kind a man". That is probably the worst remake I ever heard.... The lead singer for 3doors down is good also. And the lead singer for Snow Patrol is good. I pretty much agree with all others listed ...

I thought that version of Simple Man was better than the original. As a general rule I dislike Lynyrd Skynyrd a great deal but, that remake I thought was pretty good.

Well...yea...that did happen, but im talking pre-Weathered scott stapp, he was awesome during the My Own Prison days and the Human Clay days, but he turned into a hairy dickbeater towards the end of the Weathered tour.

Damn, in the time it took me to change the way I spelled "sighting" to "siting" (still not sure if that is the correct spelling for the context) you already replyed. :)
I was just fuckin with ya, I never liked them so never payed any attention to them. Just found it funny when they got sued.

I felt bad for the other musicians in the band (Tremonti, Phillips, and Hestla) when that happened. Personally dont care for the lead singer, good frontman and all, when he wants to be, but is a royal dick. Im glad they broke up and tremonti formed alter bridge, much better music anyway with a better singer.

Bruce Dickinson ( powerful)
Geddy Lee (still great after 30+ years)

Norah Jones (beautiful beautiful voice)
If you're not noting Tate's range, what exactly are you getting at?

I agree with you on Sarah McLachlan. Moreover, her gift of arrangement. Damn, I'm a big fan!!

Presence? Axl Rose, Steven Tyler, Glenn Danzig, & Bret Michaels.

Also... Dexter from the Offspring is always overlooked... but that guy's got a great voice, and they put on a hell of a show.

Chris Cornell
Maynard
Axl - Stage Presence and Studio (but his live singing kinda stinks)
Mr. Cash

They're individually good and Layne has my favorite voice of all time, but the harmonies between him and Jerry Cantrell are down right scary. Especially on the Unplugged (Down In a Hole??!!!??!!)

Pete Palladino (sp?) from the Badlees

Did you guys know that the Dude from Alter Bridge is the fan that the singer gave the mike to in that 'Rockstar' movie. Right at the end. "Can you handle it? Yeah man!"

"That just goes to show that dreams can come true."

If we're talking about stage presence, that's entirely a different category. My vote... Mr. Diamond David Lee Roth.

An honorable mention goes to Sebastian Bach, and I'm sure that there are a lot more.

My favorites would be:

Bruce Dickinson
Geoff Tate
Steven Tyler (the older stuff)
Axl Rose
Tom Keifer (not the best pure vocalist but his sound kicks ass!)
Joe Belladonna
Sebastian Bach

I could go on for days.

When he would actually sing, Phil Anselmo of Pantera has (had?) an incredible voice - listen to Cemetery Gates or Medicine Man and a few other tunes - MAN that dude can sing - their style turned towards the growly type of vocals, but I would have liked to hear more of his melodic capabilities.....

I was told that he sounded a lot like Rob Halford back in Patera's earlier days. I've never heard those early albums like "Power Metal", so I really can't comment.
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.
