I remember around '97 or '98 when ford changed the front end on their trucks, I hated it...... got used to it though. Or when nissan came out with the Exterra !!!! I thought " who the hell would ever want one of those " Now I kinda like 'em. Sometimes it just takes awhile to get used to a drastic change.

I like stewart also Ron. I think him and Kevin have the same level of intesity to win. You can usually tell because of the way they both get upset really easy.

I kinda like that pic of the charger. The color for it is perfect. I'd have to see one in person to make a final decision.

Tony - Nissans are pretty comon, so the more you see them the more you will get used to them. It's like the new dodge rams. When they came out I couldn't stand the look of them, now that I seen so many of them I don't like the old look anymore. I tell you a car that is uglier than ugly though; that is a Honda Elemant. EK!

Tony Stewart is my 2nd favorite driver to Dale, Jr. I have a couple I don't mind with Kevin Harvick being one. And there are only a few I can't stand. Mostly Matt Kenseth, Kurt "Rubberneck" Busch, and Bobby Labonte (tie in to area people I hate, so hate by association in a way).

NASCAR needs to do something to make it seem like it's not all rigged though. I am losing my taste with their constant mindless mingling with the sport.

I used to be the same way, I'd get pissed every time NASCAR made their weekly rule change, but then I realized that those constant changes are the only way to keep it exciting and competitive. If they change constantly, then the only way to gain an advantage is through teamwork, imagination, and a few good guesses.

If NASCAR stopped making rule changes, then we would end up with a series like Formula One. I can't imagine people being gung-ho about a series where the same team (Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro) has won the championship since 1997. In NASCAR at least 75% of the teams have a chance to win every week.

I want to see a 300 pound linebacker sit in a 180 degree car in a full fire suit, on a 100 degree day for three + hours. The average driver loses 5 pounds a weekend from sweating while in the car. These guys are athlets, I don't care how you put it, or how it is said.

Also these guys race when they have broken bones or are extremely sick. I football player breaks a nail and they are on the side line for a month .. If anything I think a nascar driver is more of an athlet than a football, baseball, hockey, and basketball player combined. Which can also be the reason that a Nascar event makes more than a football, hockey, baseball, and basketball event combined ... ;)

Yeah, I see that point. I was more referring to the "in-race" discrepencies. We went to the Dover fall race this year and I swear that every time (till 9th place was secure) that Dale, Jr. came close to falling a lap down to Newman something happened (debris, oil, etc.). Kurt Busch was running in the top 5 then. It almost looked too good to keep the points race tight. Seemed to be a few of those but, it could just be luck as well.

Not to mention the mental extremes. Imagine racing for hours with no breaks, having to push the car to it's very limits lap after lap, and all the time knowing that one mishap could end your life.

Wouldn't it be cool to see Wally Dallenbach take Terrell Owens for a white knuckle ride during a pre-race show?

TO wouldn't last a lap in the car. I seen on one of the pre-race shows last year where a big mouth radio DJ was saying how easy it would be to drive a race car. They put him to the test, they let him take the car out in Talladega, the fastest track on the circuit. They told him drive it full throttle around the track - On that track you can do that because of the banking and such. Rusty Wallace holds the record there going at a top speed of, I think, 202 mph. Then that was before they enforced the restrictor plates - Anyway, The DJ didn't last a lap before he wiped out. He got out of the car and took everything he said back. In a later interview he said that he couldn't handle the speeds and the banking was to high. Well seeing that the banking is about as high as a five story building I guess it would be kinda hard to handle.

Did you guys see when Wally took Robbie knievel around ?? He kept whining about getting to close to the wall. When asked if he would race a car he said he will stick to jumping, he claimed that was more safe lol ..

There is a lot to driving those things than just sitting there. There is a lot of mental concentration involved. Not just anyone can get in and drive. Some may think they can, but they will wipe out within the first five laps ..

My brother-in-law was a regional sales leader for Monroe Mufflers, so they took him to Dover and gave him 10 laps in a two-seater, not even a racer, although it had a NASCAR-approved engine & tranny. My sister happily rode along, as there was a governor to keep the speed down to about 140 or so. After 2 laps, she made him stop, she got out, and puked up breakfast. The lateral G's were too much. My brother-in-law, who really didn't ever even watch NASCAR was amazed at how athletic one needed to be, and he was only in the car for a few minutes.
Another point: No 90 million dollar multi-year contracts to play on a losing team. No wins = No money, and you get sponsored by Tampax or something, if you're lucky.
Yet another point: I haven't played football or basketball for years... but I can drive a car, and do so every day. It's an accessible sport for those of us who got picked last for sandlot ball (no, I'm not bitter 30 years later! :) ), and there's no need for steroid use... are there steroids in beer?--->JMS

When I got to race around Pocono in Sept. it was mind blowing. The car was basically a Busch car with the rev limiter set at 8000rpm, which equaled about 170mph. 3 cars at a time, two drivers following an instructor, and they wanted us to keep within a few car lengths of each other.

It was completely insane going down the huge Pocono front stretch full throttle while trying to stay that close to the car in front of you, let alone around turns. The slightest change in the position of your throttle foot seemed to be amplified 10x compared to a passenger car, and after 8 laps my right calf was starting to feel crampy. They run 200 laps in a race there. I can't fathom what it would be like racing side-by-side, or passing someone through a turn at speed.

I managed to hit the rev limiter a few times on the front stretch, so my TOP speed was 170mph. Last year at Pocono Kasey Kahne AVERAGED 174mph during his record qualifying run. Whew.
... and then the wheel fell off.

I'm a fan of Jeff Burton. I was a bit pissed when he basically got run out of Roush Racing, but happy to see him land in a great ride (the #31 Cingular Chevy) with RCR.

The interesting sub-plot for this season for me is the rumor mill already grinding that there may be an RCR rivalry for the "lead dog" spot at RCR between Burton and Kevin Harvick. Should be a hoot!

Here's the thing about this one:

First I love almost all sports but especially NASCAR and football. But the main reason NASCAR brings more than other sports is this:

Each weekend there is one race. That one race leads to 150,000 people there. Each weekend there is 15-16 football games leading to 50,000 people each. I saw that stat somewhere that NASCAR said that they were the number one grossing sport event. But each individual game is considered an event. The sport total is 2nd to football in overrall. But still, potato, pota(ah)to. Yin and Yang. They both rule.

Plus, picking NASCAR is MUCH more difficult. Every other team sport, you have a 50/50 chance of being right. In racing, you have a 1 in 43 shot of picking the winner.

Yeah .. I did get a little carried away with my comment, sorry lol .. Football and Nascar are top on my list as well ...

I am anxious to see who will win this year. The new point system is kinda cool. I am glad Kurt Busch won it last season, if they were going by the old point system Jeff Gordon would have won it. I wasn't a huge fan of the change, but when I heard Jeff Gordon would have won his fifth title I changed my mind about it. No offense to Gordon, he is a nice guy, Well when I met him he seemed like one. But I wanted to see someone who hasn't got it yet get it.

This year I would like to see Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, and Terry Labonte Win some races. Terry Labonte is only driving ten races and with Rusty Wallace and Mark Martin retiring it would be nice to see that. I would also like to see Kasey Kahne win one or two, after last season he has to win one. I find it gut wrenching that he could come in second so many times and not win. It reminds me of Mark Martin with all the times he came in second in the championship points. I tell you another thing: If Mark Martin does as good this year as he did last year, he will be pretty tough to beat. I am giving him a little more rooting push this season. I feel he deserves it. Rusty was already champion and Terry Labonte was champion twice. So I think it Marks turn since like I said he finished second to many times ...

I'd like to see Kahne win also... he's sort of the Roethlisberger-rookie of the sport, except that he runs second out of 43 instead of first. Great team... mechanical problems mostly haunt him, with the occasional rookie mistake. Okay, you guys have me looking forward to NASCAR now... I was goona try to fish more this year!---->JMS

1. HER DIARY

Tonight I thought he was acting weird. We had made plans to meet
at a bar to have a drink. I was shopping with my friends all day long,
so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he
made no comment. Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested that we go
somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed but he kept quiet and
absent. I asked him what was wrong; he said nothing. I asked him if it
was my fault that he was upset. He said it had nothing to do with me
and not to worry.

On the way home I told him that I loved him, he simply smiled
and kept driving. I can't explain his behavior; I don't know why he
didn't say I love you too. When we got home I felt as if I had lost
him, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there and
watched T.V. He seemed distant and absent. Finally, I decided to go to
bed. About 10 minutes later he came to bed, and to my surprise he
responded to my caress and we made love, but I still felt that he was
distracted and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep - I
cried. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are
with someone else. My life is a disaster.

2. HIS DIARY

Today the Steelers lost and were eliminated from the playoffs, but
at least I got laid.
