Their 1975 debut self-titled album was produced by guitarist Steve Cropper, who also appeared on the record along with Levon Helm, Donald "Duck" Dunn and Poco bass guitarist Timothy B. Schmit
That was the record that made me a rock fan. I was 9 or 10 when it came out, and it was after hearing it that I understood that music could make you feel something, that melody and emotion were related. Like how haunting the word "road" is on the chorus of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, just by jumping up a vocal octave and riding the word on the sustained notes. It can still give me chills, if I haven't heard it for awhile.
