Hey Dave,

Actually Layne did nearly all of the earlier lyric writing right up to the 3 legged dog album (which happens to be my least favorite, and their least successful). Cantrell always did a little though here and there.

Layne came up with most of the lyrics that stuck with the fans like Them Bones, Down in a hole, Man in the Box, Love hate love, etc. He had a way of being painfully honest with his lyrics and I think thats why a lot of people could connect.

Another concern with the new stuff is if Duvall can bring as interesting life experiences into the fold.

A good example is Mad Season. It was a one off side project with McCready of Pearl Jam and a couple members from the Screaming Trees. That cd vocally and lyrically was Layne only and it totally smoked!

Thanks for the info. LOVE the Mad Season album. Was hoping more
would come out of that. Barrett Martin's an awesome drummer. Not
sure what he's been up to since Screaming Trees split.

IMHO its why the new Motley Crue and GNR arent well received. The stories they are telling now arent dangerous enough or slutty for their respective listeners and fans.


Please please let there be something interesting for DuVall to sing about and hopefully he can lead the band into the future; because the world is a better place with AIC in it.
