I had my first and last taste of Greenwood's Best Way Pizza last sunday before the benefit. I spent $30 bucks in there for pizza and sodas for 5 kids. 3 minutes into chewing that horrible rubbery cheese I looked at the kids to see how they were making out and they were looking at me the same way...we dumped a whole pizza in the trash (untouched) and ended up eating at 30 somthing ( Hot dogs and fries).

That part is right before Naven gets to use his special purpose for the first time. :D

"FUNCH" who owns Best Way used to give people the hook up but he seems to be getting cheap lately.....

Nobody can touch the Altoona Hotel style Yellow pizza that Harry has down at Pelligines...... It is AWSOME.........

I just wish Donnie Crum still worked there instead of Al's Tavern... He made the BEST Chicago Stuffed pizza in the world.....

When I win the powerball my first order of business is to buy a pizza shop to let Donnie Crum hone his mad skills with pizza dough.....

Love ya Donnie C !!!!

Prices of food are going up everywhere, and costs are rising.

But more importantly, there are starving children happy to eat a piece of pepperoni ALONE, and we have time and finances to bitch about getting one per slice.

lol, just saying. :D

In the late 70s, Chef-Boy-Ar-Dee had a brief stint with an offshoot of their pizza-in-a-box called Skillet Pizza.

When the band went on the road, we usually ended up with at least one room with a stove & fridge, so we usually did some of our own grocery shopping. Somewhere in Maryland, our sound guy bought a box of Skillet Pizza. Mmmm. Anyway, this guy was not much of a cook and never read directions and proceeded to whip up Pizza-In-A-Skillet. He poured all the contents into the pan, mixed it and fried it up. I can't describe what it looked like, but it was orange.

Anyway, Best-Way pizza has been around since the 60s (the Cross Keys intersection, now an entrance ramp for new Rte 22) and they have NEVER put more than one slice of pepperoni on a slice of pizza. If you got more than one, it was a mistake.

That is a standard feature of all brands of authentic central PA slab pizza.

Best-Way's original recipe was much better than now, but that formula went with Steve when he started Steve-O's Pizza in Foot of Ten, Duncansville. Steve-O's and also Don's in East Freedom have a better class of authentic central PA slab pizza, but still, you only get one slice of pepperoni per standard cut. It sucks to be authentic.

but not cheaper. you can't beat a box of 16 for 2 dollars (ramen noodles, i mean.)

i still prefer jean-o's in tyrone to anywhere on earth.

All this reading about Best Way pizza has got me craving...i don't even care if they only give me one slice pepperoni. So much for my end of the boycott. Seriously though, my real only complaint with Best Way as for any pizza joint around here... why aren't they open later. i know Papa Johns is open till like one or so...but come on, i think Best Way would be perfect for a after a (insert bar of choice) stop.

Could not say last time we ate Best Way Pizza. Since a little Angel's birthday party there in January, Family Pizza has the pizza I crave, but they don't deliver. :( Brother's Pizza @ Station Square is a close second, especially @ least 2 slices of their Sicillian.

As for tipping delivery peeps, wholey cheapskate Batman! I try to always tip at least $5 and if paying with cash, have felt bad the time or two all I had on me was a measley extra dollar. I figure it is still less expensive than going to a restaurant (drinks, etc.) and sometimes, even than cooking a meal for 3 (or more if their friends are over).

You know what I miss? Sheetz-a-Pizza! I know that at some Sheetz store, you can buy pizza by the slice through the MTO screen, but about 13 years ago, you could get full pizzas from Sheetz. And they were damn good!

Sheetz-a Pizza was awesome. I tried the new version of it not too long ago and it wasn't nearly as good. I was bummed.

Sheeta-A-Pizza Smoked....

When Scott Everhart and I roomed together at PSU main we lived on Sheetz Pizza....

The chick making the pizza used to think Scott was a hottie and threw tons of toppings on for us... Nothing like pimping out your college room mate....

I hated the annoying radio commercials though.. The 2 old Italian folks going back and forth.. "I can't believeaa.. Sheetzaa.. Makaa.. Pizzaa"

I just like sheet (not sheetz) pizza when it's fresh. If it's old, I can't cuff it. Like was said earlier, it gets rubbery and NASTY after a half hour out of the oven or so. I think this thread has made me want to come to Altoona and get some best way tonight. I always go to the one off the pinecroft exit. I like it the best.
