I got windows 7 and the beta testing key - So far it is a really nice os as well. I am loving it. It takes what was in vista a step further. There are some nice enhancements in it ...

I used to work for highmark blue cross blue shield. All of there OP's are xp, I run xp on my machine and havent had many problems with it. WIN 98 was kick ass but is now outdated unfourtunatly. Had Vista but is kinda a space hog. Booted it and went back to xp pro. My dad used to say if it has tits or wheels sooner or later your gonna have trouble with it.I think if it has tits or wheels or a processer sooner or later your gonna have trouble with it.
I lost my mind and I aint looking for it!

I have installed thousands of windows service packs for NT, 2000, XP, etc. After reading some posts on here, I decided to do Vista SP1 on my PC.

Poof...blue screen of death...poof...no safe mode. Please insert your Vista disk.

I didn't get a Vista disk with my PC--or any disks for that matter. Fortunately, I created recovery disks from the images on the hard drive.

I booted from RD#1 and it allowed me to restore the PC back to the restore point just before installing SP1. Everything is back to normal. I have to say that Vista has the best recovery system yet offered by Windows. I'm going to wait for SP2.

Don't know if OP is still reading this or cares, but nowadays this is actually a viable option. I ran Ubuntu for a few months and it was great. Its actually easier to use than windows, and runs better and more efficiently. If you want a P.C. for browsing the intertubes, instant messanging, doctument editing (openoffice FTW) even image editing (the gimp is actually pretty decent) There's no reason not to use linux. I have yet to find a version of guitar pro for linux, and software for my line6 toneport. If I had that, I'd probably switch back. Of course you pretty much can't play games for linux. I remember back in the day Quake III was released for linux, it was the most exciting thing to happen to the linux community in years. The trend never seemed to catch on.

Oh yeah, use linux free (guilt, and $)

I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on an older PC I had laying around. I love it. There were a few hardware conflicts I had to clean up but after that it was a blast. I remember reading that it was faster than XP for Video and Photo editing applications which caught my attention. If they could just get WINE ( a program for running Windows Apps) to work properly I would make the switch on all my systems as a personal F.U to Microsoft.

Oh and I love Ubuntu's logo too.

Thanks for all the advise. I went with Vista directly from Dell with 6GB memory and 640GB hard drive , it should be alot faster than my old window ME that I currently use. Should arrive soon.

Really thanks for your help, you talked me out of the apple which would of been more than twice as much money for less power. Thanks!!!

Windows Vista

Post by BloodyFingers »

Windows Vista is being replaced with wiindows 7. Vista is not compatable with almost all daws. So if there are any plans of doing any recording with your computer downgrade to Xp Pro. Thats what I'm doing. Looking into a new quad core. My daughter has a laptop with vista and she doesnot have any issue's wit it but all she does is get on the internet and do her collaga work on it and fill her I-pod up with it. Be smart and get XP on it. Less hassle and head aches !!!!!
