I think I played Rob's drums the night that pic was taken (banner in the background). That small tom was a bitch for me to hit. My aim is sub par i guess. What a great kit though. It was like trading in a Kia for a Ferrari.

Drum set

Post by Jared Michaels »

I play in an 80's hair band.

I use a traditional 80's hair style set up.

22"Double bass Tama set,12" and 13" toms 16" floor tom 14" X 5 1/2" snare and all Sabian cymbals. It is an older set so the drums are all real deep. (6 piece total)

That's what get's it for me!

I need to revisit my past to put my current set-up into perspective. There were a couple of guys that I looked up to that played a certain Ludwig kit. One day me & a good friend who played guitar were looking in a music store window & there it was. So I convinced my Mom that I had to have it. They were kind enough to take a trade-in & this Ludwig set was mine. This set-up had four rack toms. Two each on a stand on both sides of the bass drum. That was great because I've always loved to do long, colorful tom fills. There were a couple problems though. I had to stretch my right arm like Mr. Fantastic to reach my ride cymbal which was on a boom stand above my two lower rack toms. The other was I still can't remember how I managed to hit my crash which was on a boom stand above my two higher rack toms after coming off a fill on the floor tom. I only had those two cymbals plus the hi-hat. Now I played this kit from 1979-83. Anyway, today after years of tinkering with configurations I've settled into a 6-pc. set-up which finds a standard 5-pc. with an added smaller tom which works well & doesn't take up too much room above the snare & beside the hi-hat. My ride cymbal is in the right place above the floor tom. A couple of crash cymbals, a splash, & a china if needed make it all fall into place. A comfortable place to be - home sweet home.
I've drank enough beer to float a battleship! Go ahead and Rock & Roll all night if you can but don't party every day!
