Well, I never considered myself to be one of those doom and gloom guys. Yes, it's a lot easier than writing love songs, because of the heavy amounts of negativity in this world. But I do give props to individuals or groups who can come up with excellent meaningful love songs.

Not trying to hijack my own thread, although the LOTR guys seem to beat me to the punch on it...

. But the song "I Don't Have Anything" by VAST, that seems to be one of the more simplistic and straight to the point love songs. And yet, something that seems that simple is probably one of the most difficult things to conjure up into words for me. I'm one of those, "If it's meant to be seen, look at it," kind of guys. If it's meant to be said say it. If it's meant to be felt...feel it. So that's probably the reason it's difficult for me to say what I feel. And Songsmith you said you were married for sometime, so maybe this happened to you or your wife. When I'm uber happy and in love with my wife, I don't have to say anything. It just shows. And she knows. And the funny thing is...she can't put it into words either.

To me though...and again it's my sole opinion on this matter. I don't see alot of metal song lyrics being as introverted (not in a negative way) like love songs. Yes, it is one person or a group's feelings, but it seems to me that metal always has some kind of bigger agenda (religion, politics, lack of faith in humanity, global events, etc...) so one has a lot of information to refer to when you're angry at the world. But with love song lyrics, I just can't see the same formula working as efficiently.

I do agree that metalheads write the better ballads. But sometimes its stereotypical value sometimes preceeds itself, and it can disguise the true art and magnificence of metal. Then again, it's difficult to express sincerity when you're growling and screaming. But, just because the lyrics don't say I Love You, doesn't mean it's not a love song. And just because it sounds rough, rigid, and distorted doesn't mean it's not beautiful.

Wow...I think I just lost myself. Well, I think if I took my time and really focused, I could pull it off. But, I'm no Lionel Ritchie.
