That horse is hot.
Here is a song titled "THE USURPER"
Celtic Frost - The Usurper lyrics
Lend me your steel-bearing hand
So I may reign the Jewel Throne
My soul feels the gods' demand
As the lost kings uphold my side
Blood and sand
Mark their way
The usurper's tears
Guide my sword...
Fantasia slept in my thoughts
As I was a son of infinity
The emperor, forgotten, rests in my dreams
As, back to the wall, I start the conquest
Innocence and wrath
Now lie far beyond
As we cross the deserts
To reach the fortress' gates
Tragical serenades
Are whispered in the wind
As eyes in fury
Grant us our strength
They're throning on the dignity of might
But the successor is to enter the hall
False truth saw them climbing the steps
But I remain the Jewel Throne's choice

Well, I never considered myself to be one of those doom and gloom guys. Yes, it's a lot easier than writing love songs, because of the heavy amounts of negativity in this world. But I do give props to individuals or groups who can come up with excellent meaningful love songs.songsmith wrote:Dragan Kalasa wrote: That's one thing I can not do. Love songs. Not that I wouldn't do them, but for some reason I just can't let my words tell a love story. My wife yells at me all the time, "Why do you always sing about death, sadness, futility (not fertility...lol)?" I've tried...oh yes, I've tried. And they sound cheesier than a Kraft Mac and Cheese commercial.
I've written a lot of lonely songs, despite the fact that I seldom feel lonely. Country music is full of heartbreak songs, and I've written lots of those, too, though I've been married for 15+ years. You don't have to currently be going through an emotion to write about it, you just have to either remember it vividly, or be able to sense it's depth in someone else, then write about them. I'm sure you could write a love song, you obviously feel those emotions, or you wouldn't have gotten married... it's a question of taking a good look at how you feel.
I won't accept the doom and gloom explanation. Metalheads write the best ballads. There's darkness and light in everyone, and if she's your light, there's no excuse not to write her a love song. Writing her a song and singing it to her, and watching the tears fill her eyes... it's a beautiful thing.
Plus, she'll almost definitely hook you up with the good lovin' that night.--------->JMS
Not trying to hijack my own thread, although the LOTR guys seem to beat me to the punch on it...

To me though...and again it's my sole opinion on this matter. I don't see alot of metal song lyrics being as introverted (not in a negative way) like love songs. Yes, it is one person or a group's feelings, but it seems to me that metal always has some kind of bigger agenda (religion, politics, lack of faith in humanity, global events, etc...) so one has a lot of information to refer to when you're angry at the world. But with love song lyrics, I just can't see the same formula working as efficiently.
I do agree that metalheads write the better ballads. But sometimes its stereotypical value sometimes preceeds itself, and it can disguise the true art and magnificence of metal. Then again, it's difficult to express sincerity when you're growling and screaming. But, just because the lyrics don't say I Love You, doesn't mean it's not a love song. And just because it sounds rough, rigid, and distorted doesn't mean it's not beautiful.
Wow...I think I just lost myself. Well, I think if I took my time and really focused, I could pull it off. But, I'm no Lionel Ritchie.
Continue with the LOTR...
