Rediscovering an album from an earlier part of your life

I recently listened to the West, Bruce, & Lang album, Why Dontcha. Gritty blues rock at its finest. Leslie West, Jack Bruce, and Corky Lang formed a power trio in the early 70s that medled Mountain with Cream.

Queensryche's "Rage For Order," was the album that truly defined their sound going into the "Mindcrime" era, and helped shape the next 15 years of prog metal. With songs like "Gonna Get Close To You" and "Screaming in Digital," it was obvious these guys were a force to be reckoned with.

Good call on Rage for Order, that was a great album indeed.
Their self titled and The Warning were great as well. What the hell am I sayin' almost all of their albums were good...well almost. (sorry Paul)
They were like Sabbath in a way. The first 5 or 6 were good then they drifted off into other directions.

I do like Mindcrime II alot. They sounded good, and kind of got back into their old sound. But the one thing that album was missing: Chris DeGarmo.
It will never be the same until he's back w/ them.

One plus is a chameo by Ronnie James, playing Dr.X. His voice cleaned up alot to match Tate's vocals.
Great album none the less, atleast they are still going at it.

JP, what do you think of the new Mindcrime?

I broke out some of my old vinyl & cassettes a few weeks ago. At the top of the stack are:
Jag Panzer "Ample Destruction"
The Rods "Wild Dogs"
Uriah Heep "Demons & Wizards"
Blackfoot "Tomcattin"

I broke out Demons and Wizards last week. Def has that 70's keyboard sound. I saw Uriah Heep, with Atlanta Rythym Section and Blue Oyster Cult opening, at the Philly Spectrum about 73 or 74. I think it was the first lazer light show I saw, although about those years I saw Yes about 5 times who always had an awsome lazer light show.

Ooh, yeah, I have to find a copy of Wild Dogs, Thin Ice used to do some Rods back in the day... yeah, they were obscure then, too. Tomcattin' I may have on cassette somewhere, and Rage For Order, too.
Dammit, I just got 2 new Jim Lauderdale CD's for my birthday yesterday, and won't have time to liten to them until I feed the metal monkey on my back.

I have that CD. There's some killer guitar work on there, but damn, I can't understand one fucking word coming out of the vocalist's mouth. It sounds like the recording engineer put a microphone in the bathroom while the singer was taking a power shit, and that's how the vocals got recorded. LOL
