I agree with Larry. I am against them completely for several reasons, however, I do agree with many other points on this topic. BUT...here is some other views on this subject. No one should be subjected to a drug test.
First of all, call me naive, but I DO NOT believe you can buy an Iphone or the like with an Access card. I have no proof that this is not true, but it just can't be.
And it is not as easy to get and keep a card as many of you think. My son has one (just a medical card)...now. It will probably be taken away from him anyday, according to his case worker. The reason? He just turned 21. Thats it. He has to sign up for another one (not allowed to until he loses the one he has) that has a waiting list of 1 year. Background info: Yes, he has a job and has worked for quite awhile. Does everyone understand that more and more companies are not offering insurance benefits? When you were 20-21, could you afford to pay for private medical insurance? Hell I can't now and I have a professional position. Also, he has been diagnosed with COPD because he has had lung problems since birth (3 months premature) and must take extremely expensive asthma drugs everyday. Guess they don't care, because its all on his original application along with medical endorsement. I don't know what he's going to do except he did join a research study which is providing free medicine to him for awhile because he was thinking ahead.
I have noticed many of you do seem to understand there are situations where the help is warrented, and this is just a reminder not to lump all of these people together. I HAVE seen the losers you're talking about...

Bill, why do you gotta talk about me like that???Hawk wrote:I've been around some of those lazy idiots. I would rather NOT have them work with / for me. They are so lazy they spend their day trying to do nothing, costing the employer too much.
The employer would have to raise his prices of his product because three of these idiots MIGHT equal one hard worker.
I say give them their welfare and keep them in a stupor living in some rat infested trap FAR AWAY FROM ME.
Just my take on lazy people, that's all.

Ditto. I have the medical card because I am disabled...and I also say, don't be so quick to lump everyone together.
Also, I believe some may be confusing an Eppic Card, which some use for support, with an Access Card. I've seen the pathetic ones that are being griped about as well, but I've known my share of perfectly healthy, working...but not hard...and extremely lazy people, too. You know, those who bitch and moan about people getting any kind of help because they WANT to do absofreakinglutely NOTHING all day and night. Pathetic.

Yea you can get cash on your access card if you're getting cash assistance. You also can get cash on your access card if you are on SSI disability and are colecting food stamps. I think the types people are bitching about are the ones collecting cash when they really don't need a hand out to support their drug habit.
ZappasEx: Sadly, they don't care what his health issues are. If he's working anything over 15- 20 hours a week and making anything over min wage. Automatically he makes too much and won't qualify for medical. Sure he could get his name on the list for Adult Chip (a program they don't usually tell you about) but he could be waiting up to 3 years to get into the program.

I find that the best thing to do is date your caseworker's homely daughter and then have your friend say that you are being considered for a latex sales position at his company, Vandelay Industries.Trucula wrote:I agree with what you said earlier about proving your trying to get a job...I remember years ago (like in the 80's) when we were laid off and getting unemployment.. and when that ran out we were able to file for an extension....But I had to show that i tried to get work 3 times a month and have the employers sign the paper..."To get money I worked for and paid in!!!"?!?!![]()

And I know some people DO deserve to have help...and most don't get what they deserve....It's sad when those who need it, don't get help. And allot that live with pain and doctor/hospital hassles deserve more than they receive...I don't want to come off like I hate everyone that's on it. I respect everyone with an illness/ injury..and am thankful I don't have those worries. I also have a relation that is raising a bed ridden child that's 17 and I highly respect her. When the girl was a baby they vaccinated her and the nurse didn't think it took and gave her another one. Now she's handicapped and her mom has to do EVERYTHING for her..
