...Combine those two and its a challenge to hold one's tongue on here anymore.

And my current pet peeves:

1. Posting a "Thank You" on here to every bar that books a gig. I could see the point in that if those bars were members of the RP community (a VERY few might be, but I highly doubt that the Bumfucked American Legion is spending time cruising RP), so knowing that the bar is never going to actually see your "Thank You" makes it the equivalent of wearing your own band's t-shirt onstage.

2. People from Harrisburg, York, etc. who put ads in PA Musician that say "Central PA". Hello! There's a picture of the state in the damn logo! Either you don't know where your own town is on the map, or you're unfamiliar with the concept of "central". Here's a clue: If your state has a county called "Centre" and you live three counties away, you're probably NOT in Central PA.

3. People who blatantly rip off avatars from Hurricane and don't give him any credit...even like 2 years later.
I have tiny hands, like a Tyrannosaurus. T-Rex may be the lizard king but he could never play the guitar...

I thought of some more.

- Cam whores on MySpace who constantly send me friend requests. I swear that I get like ten of these at a time. What kind of guys accept these requests? I feel lame just recieving them. Does my profile make me seem like such a loser that I actually believe that you're interested in me, and I'll accept your friend request? If I want to look at porn, I'll just do a Google search...or attend the Porn for the Poor benefit.

- People who think that behavior is tied to simple processes and have no flippin' clue what they're talking about. Last week on the radio, I heard of this conservative Christian organization who runs a program to help "cure" homosexuals. I laughed my ass off when I heard one of the people talking. Is there peer-reviewed research to support this bullshit?

- Guitarists who run high amounts of gain without noise gates. C'mon, you obviously could afford the Marshall JCM2000 with matching 1960 cabs and the guitar with the single-coil pickups. Boss makes a noise gate in a pedal version for about $80. The least you could do is pick one up so we don't have to cover our ears everytime you end a song and there's an ungodly amount of hum coming through the front of house PA.

- People more concerned with the politics of music and scenes than the actual music. I roll my eyes when people start waxing philosophy about who's a sell out or what band is lame because they've become too popular. If you really care about a band, then you should want them to be a success. If the music changes and you don't like it, it's quite simple: Don't buy the fucking album. If your self-concept is so wrapped up in the music that you listen to, maybe it's time to go on an existential journey.

- People who practically crawl through an intersection when it's a green light. Is it really that hard to shift into second?

- Despite the fact that we're being raped at the pump, the gas has more water in it than the Great Lakes. I'm keeping the dry gas industry in so much business that I've decided to purchase a large amount of stocks. I love the feeling of my car running like shit as I climb a hill because my tank is 89% H2O.

Wow, this has been cathartic. :D

Our pet peeve: Flamers on any messageboard......
My latest pet peeve has been those annoying spambots that somehow post crap on message boards, spewing random letters, symbols and other unintelligible gobbledygook. I usually have to remove one or two of these a week off of Q94's website message board (somehow they turn up on there even though you have to log in to post on the board). I think they originate from China.
And Jim....we've found that most spam is coming from Albania right now....at least that's where most of the stuff on the Bucket board originates......

Yeah, bots of any kind are annoying. Someone mentioned the myspace camwhores. Those might be the worst.

I'm pretty much in agreement with this. I can't stand it when people start to dislike good bands when they have some success.

My biggest pet peeve right now, especially in western Maryland, is the fact that every band insists on covering the same music. Everyone does "Sweet Home Alabama", "Give me 3 steps", "Brown Eyed Girl". I'm in a band, but I actually enjoy going out and seeing other bands play. I can sit in a bar/venue in this area and call out the set list of just about every band down here. And before anyone asks, the answer is no, my band doesn't cover that kind of music. I just don't get it.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.

I'm with you on this one. I also don't like the spam messages you get; the one that tell you how to save hundreds on loans, or tell you your loan has been approved, even though you didn't apply for one. I usually send that stuff in as spam.

1) Women who dress like strippers, then get all snotty when ugly dudes like me look at them. Listen, if your vulva shows above your jeans' waistband, I reserve the right to look at it. All the "hot bois" are either gay or can find women who don't have to show their cootchies. If you don't want me scoping your "skag tag," wear a t-shirt... guys like those, too.
2) I, too, think global warming is a load of hooey. Oh, I'm not denying a slight warming, but I think it's terribly egotistical to think we're doing it. The greenhouse gases released by a single volcano easily outweigh all the human output (sulphur dioxide is exponentially more powerful greenhouse-wise than CO2, and turns into sulphuric acid when combined with water), and the single largest source of methane is decaying rainforest material. I believe if we simply stopped existing, in a hundred years, the pollution we caused would no longer be a biological problem, and in a thousand years (still nanoseconds on the world's biological clock) there'd be little evidence we ever existed. Life goes on. Get over yourself.
3) As a straight, caucasian male, I have zero white guilt. People have discriminated against me for how I dress, my po'-folk rural background, my personal grooming, my garrulousness (look it up), my car, my address, my rebelliousness, and every other conceivable reason. Aside from uttering a few ugly labels, I have done nothing to harm anyone. I owe nothing, and refuse to kowtow to anyone... if you feel I'm disrespecting your "high position" you need to ask yourself why it is I have to respect you. Respect is earned. Outside of basic human mutual consideration, I owe nothing. Sorry. But not that sorry.
4) When I have to lie, and tell people I like music I really don't. Sure, we all do it, for some pretty noble reasons (we don't want to hurt someone's feelings, we don't feel like arguing our point, etc.), but plenty of folks disagree with my tastes, so why do I feel the need to validate their difference in tastes? I genuinely enjoy lots of different music, but I hate lots of it, too. New Age, Goth/Industrial, D & B, House, Ambient, and Broadway are all viable forms of music with substance, I suppose, but they are all truly lost on me, and strike me with about the same vibe as dick, or red beets... some people love 'em, but it ain't for me.
This goes double for music that is hackneyed or amateurish. As a longtime songwriter, I can tell you: Most of your songwriting sucks. Simply creating something does not make it good. It takes a lot of heart, a lot of inspiration, a lot of experience and a lot of kismet to make a good song, and if only 10% of your stuff is really truly good, you qualify as a composing legend. (As opposed to Kurt Cobain, who is a decomposing legend  ) Never trust your mom, girlfriend, or the guy who owns the studio to tell you the truth about your songs. Sure, we all seek validation, and want to be congratulated for creating something, but BE REALISTIC and open yourself up for growth. Which brings me to my final peeve today:
5) People who smell of booze telling me how "awesome" I am. I am not awesome. I am adequate at most things I attempt, or I wouldn't attempt them. I am smart at choosing areas of expertise that make me look like I know what I'm doing, and also require little effort to reach that point. I flat-out suck at guitar, and there are soooo many good guitarists out there locally that I'd just languish at the bottom of the heap, so I play weird stuff like lap-steel and harmonica. I do a lot of stuff, but I'm not really good at any one thing, so I feel like I'm being patronized when somebody goes on and on, especially when they're happily drunk. Wanna really connect with me? Start your praise with,"... You know what you should try?..." or, "Wanna burn one?" I promise that gets my ear every time.

I'm not sure what you mean, but this

polar-meltdown-desalinate-the-oceans-shut-off-the-
gulfstream-turn-on-the-glaciers-refreeze-the-polar-
caps-re-salinate-the-oceans-turn-on-the-gulfstream-
pull-back-the-glaciers

cycle has been going on for millions of years now. We are only two or three supervolcano eruptions away from the next glacial period of the present ice age.

I don't doubt that human activities contribute to global warming. What amuses me is the idea that we can do anything short of atmospheric terraforming to prevent global warming and the resulting glacial period. Its going to happen and right now there's nothing we can do about it except maybe delay it a year or two.

Also, read Songsmith's post, #2

my pet peeve is that global warming has become a politial issue. Its either happening, or it isn't happening. We can either do something about it or we can't.

I fail to see how that relates to republicans and democrats...

that is, without a doubt, the most accurate and to-the-point statement I have ever read on RP. You sir, are a poet.

...and as for global warming, I can't believe there are still people unconvinced. I'd recommend you nay-sayers watch a very concise treatise on the topic that will leave no doubt in your mind. It is a ground-breaking movie that I think may have even won some oscars. Maybe you've heard of it if you don't live under a rock?

of course, I'm referring to....the Lorax.

I recommend that you read up on the larger cycle that global warming has been a part of for millions of years. You would learn that we are already in an ice age and happen to be in an "interglacial" warming period where the glaciers have receded. After this warming period, the cycle will give way to a glacial period (often incorrectly called an "ice age") and there is nothing we can do about it.

Yes, global warming is a fact of life--so much so that it will happen with or without human interference. There is nothing we can do to stop it.

Unfortunately, like Meyatch said, it has become a hotbutton issue and is used to drive the agendas of clueless knuckledragging politicians.

Once-ler...er...I mean, dude! If I'm reading Dr. Suess books do you really think I'm gonna understand the theory of interglacial warming?

Honestly, I wouldn't even care about global warming except that everyone knows Pro-Mark 747s are made from Trucula trees, by Barbaloots in sweat-shops.
