We played in chicago one time and the person setting things up put the wrong date on the flyer, hence we got paid 15 dollars...it sucked but what are you gonna do...we went and had fun anyway.
another way to look at things, AtoMikEnRtiA, is that THEY LEFT. maybe they took ppl with them, but they weren't inside smashing the place up, or drinking all over the place leaving empties lay everywhere or starting fights. So if it cost you 50 bux to find out you'll never want to work these guys again, you got off pretty cheap...which still doesn't make it ok but things could have been worse.
They did disrespect by announcing (lying about) playing another show that night and that's bullshit. shows are hard to come by these days and burning bridges just isn't cool but some ppl insist on digging thier own grave. Good luck on future shows & let's get one together sometime ourselves. cheers

You are a promoter when you do this kinda thing. If you didn't know that before you found out the hard way. The problem with promoting is taking on all the responsabilities is hardly ever worth the pay.

The problem is you are worried about the ethics of other people, when all you need to do for future sucess is worry about your own.

First thing- research this is a lesson you won't soon forget I'll bet
( I still hear stories about the time DRAGONFIRE played at the PS Altoona campus) That was priceless!!!
If you don't know EVERYTHING about your entertainers then you probably don't know enough

You pay the VENUE first and foremost. cudos on that!

Never guarantee money that isn't made by ticket sales or guaranteed sponsers.

NEVER leave anyone unclear on the payment issue!!

NEVER overextend yourself!

NEVER NOT pay what was agreed apon(no matter how mad you are at the time)

All in all it sounds like you did a good job though. You will feel much better taking it as a good lesson, and don't look at it as a huge thing. Next time you will know who NOT to invite!
You can't please everyone- especially bands, and especially young punkass bands like that. so worry about yourself and your bands that don't have overi-nflated noggins and you will do great!

By the way I find it MOST ethical to warn others about the "band" and the only way to do that is name them!

Oh Yeah- table toppers good
- plugging a fake show pathetic
- bringing your own fans OK
- taking them with you when you leave humerous
- plugging a show while at a multi-band show motive for a beating

Now you know why most promoters are dicks. They HAVE to be!!

I would never do that job
