Buddy Guy is such a God that I couldn't vote against him on this one. I wonder who they will have him up against next? I hope it isn't someone that will make it hard for me to choose.Gallowglass wrote:Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — Buddy Guy Vs. Son House

Friday's matchup saw Robert Johnson (70.31%) defeat John Lee Hooker (29.69%).
That and they had 'Damn right I got the blues' as the video.

Buddy's one of my absolute all time faves. He's solidly in the blues camp, but he really knows how to stretch the idiom. He'll go against Robert Johnson next. That might be tough, but Buddy will win due to the recognition factor if nothing else.f.sciarrillo wrote:] Buddy Guy is such a God that I couldn't vote against him on this one. Damn Right is always one of my faves during T.H.B.B. set.

Man, Buddy Guy Vs. Robert Johnson will be a tough one for me. Putting one of the greatest in blues against the father of the blues. Wow.Gallowglass wrote:Buddy's one of my absolute all time faves. Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — Keith Richards Vs. Pete Townshend
http://www.guitarworld.com/poll-greates ... -townshend
Whoever wins will face Gilmour, so it really doesn't matter to me. I wouldn't vote for either of them over Gilmour.
Also, due to an error, there will be some bonus matches this week. I'm wondering who they'll throw into the mix at this point.
Monday's matchup saw Buddy Guy (86.65%) defeat Son House (13.35%).

Richards is actually ahead right now. That's because Richards' fans are all vampires who don't rise from the crypt until after sundown.f.sciarrillo wrote:Wow, Keith must have had a swoop because at the time I voted, Townsend was killing him.undercoverjoe wrote:Richards and Townsend are less than 1 point difference right now. There is no way that Gilmour will lose this one. Keith doesn't even compare to him.Gallowglass wrote:Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — Keith Richards Vs. David Gilmour:

Edit: I took a look at the bracket and SRV is going up against Eric Clapton next. There is another one I will be sitting out.
Gilmour is going up against Angus Young. Gilmour should win that one also.
Randy Rhoads is going up against Zac Wylde.
Steve Vai is going up against Richie Blackmore.
Satch is going up against Paul Gilbert.
Toni Iomi is going up against James Hetfield.
Dave Mustaine is going up against John Patrucci.

Schenker is getting destroyed, which is expected, although he had my vote.
Thursday's matchup saw Michael Schenker (61.73%) defeat Alex Skolnick (38.27%).

Schenker is a great guitarist. I have Assault Attack on vinyl and there are some killer riffs on that. But Skolnick is just a beast. Few guitarists mix chops and melodic taste as much as him. I checked out some of the new Testament material a few days ago, and Peterson and Skolnick still gots it. Although I have to admit, some of my favorite playing of Skolnick's is off of Savatage's Handful of Rain album.

As much as I love the metals, some of my absolute favorite stuff Skolnick does is his jazz trio work. Fantastic. I've always contended there there is a very close connection between jazz and a lot of the heavier forms of metal. Odd meters, exotic scales, tritones, b7's, and b9's pervade both types of music. A good band can even swing some really heavy riffs (a la Black Sabbath). Skolnick exploits a lot of those same sensibilities and really makes some great stuff happen.
