I'm saddened to report the passing of Skell drummer Keith Kweder. He died late Monday night, February 2, from respiratory issues. He was 32.
Keith was a force behind the drum kit, and displayed some of the fastest footwork on bass drums I've witnessed on the area music scene. His drum solos during Skell performances usually left me picking my jaw off the floor.
Off the stage, Keith was fun and down to earth. I had the pleasure to interview him on the "Homegrown Rocker" a few years ago, and you could tell he was passionate about his music and drumming.
Besides Skell, Keith also was involved in other projects including Mother Cool, which released a CD in 2013.
Here is a photo of Keith, taken during a performance at Aldo's in December, 2007. My condolences to Keith's family, friends and bandmates.

Area musician Paul Mishock passed away on March 7 after a lengthy illness. He was 65. I met and saw Paul several times when he performed with the Rattlers and Mario Crocetti Trio. I believe Paul was a bandmate of my older brother, Mike, in a polka/variety band back in the early 1970s.

Area music photographer Bill Rogers has passed. Here is a statement from the Johnstown Area Heritage Association and the AmeriServ Flood City Music Festival, where Bill regularly did photography work:
All of us at the Johnstown Area Heritage Association and the festival were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Bill Rogers. A Vietnam veteran, Bill enjoyed a distinguished career in risk management, but retired early in 2006 due to Parkinson's disease. He turned to digital photography as a way to meet new people and stay engaged with the world. As a photographer, Bill became a champion of the local music scene. He was always enormously generous with his time and talent, not only to the festival and JAHA, but to numerous local/regional bands, as well as other music venues and events. He was known for his quick wit, direct manner, and friendly competition with other festival photographers to get the very best shot. Bill was an inspiration to us all, and we will miss him so much. Our sincere condolences to his wife of 37 years, Beth, and their sons.

Josh Weyandt died in a tragic accident last Wednesday April 8th. Josh was a great musician and had a family history of musicians that loved music just like he did. I could tell the first time I heard him play that it was deep within his soul. He was a very personable guy who always wore a smile and listened to others when they spoke. We used to get him up to do a couple songs (acoustic) from time to time. He was upheld by myself and many other of the older experienced musicians. He appreciated advice. He played a lot with his cousin Randy and they sounded really great together. Although I was not real super close with Josh, I will always miss him greatly. RIP my friend
