They are both great guitarists. But there is only one SRV. I think even Bonamassa would vote for SRV in this one.Gallowglass wrote:OH my...

Wow. Both are fantastic and gifted. I love Jason Becker's song "air". And there are quite a few of Vai's songs that I like. I am going to sit this one out, as there is no way I could come to a decision. Although, with Vai being more popular, he will win.Gallowglass wrote:Today's matchup: Steve Vai vs. Jason Becker

Here is another one that I won't be able to decide on. These are getting way too hard. I couldn't even predict who the winner will be. I think this one will be close.Gallowglass wrote:Billy Gibbons vs. Joe Walsh

I am going for Page. You can't compare Buckingham to him.undercoverjoe wrote:Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — Jimmy Page Vs. Lindsey Buckingham

I would imagine Page and Hendrix will end up in the final vote.f.sciarrillo wrote:I am going for Page. You can't compare Buckingham to him.undercoverjoe wrote:Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — Jimmy Page Vs. Lindsey Buckingham

Jeff Beck. He is better than Brian May. But seeing that Brian May is more popular. We know who will win.undercoverjoe wrote:Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — Jeff Beck Vs. Brian May

Aside from how good a player is at his or her given style, here are some things to take into consideration:
• Influence: Who inspired more kids to beg their parents for a guitar for Christmas? Who inspired a wave of copycats?
• Chops/Versatility: Is the guitarist in question a one-trick pony or a master of many styles?
• Body of Work: Who had the more consistent career? Who has played on more classic albums?
• Creativity: Who pioneered new techniques? Who sounds the most radically different from what came before them?
[/snip]
With that in consideration. I would say Brain May also.

Round 2 Hammett vs. Mustaine
This is the one that makes people in the metal community start throwing throat punches and biting jugulars. I expect Mustaine to win. I love Mustaine, but I voted for Hammett. I realize that overall there is a very good argument that Mustaine is a "better" guitarist...I just like Hammett's playing that little bit more. Rock on.

I will go with Mustaine, even though they are both great guitar players. Hammet has some great licks, but I have liked Mustaine longer than I liked Hammet.Gallowglass wrote:Round 2 Hammett vs. Mustaine

Poll: The Greatest Guitarist of All Time, Round 2 — Yngwie Malmsteen Vs. Ritchie Blackmore
http://www.guitarworld.com/poll-greates ... -blackmore
This is a hard choice, but I have to go with Blackmore, he created one of the most classic guitar riffs ever.
Mustaine won over Hammett by about 20 points.
