Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

Played a lot of QuakeWorld back in the day (damn, seems so weird saying that about the mid-to-late 90's!) Quake III Arena is still a favorite of mine, after all these years. Used to play it online on the PC, and the Dreamcast. Same with the original Unreal Tournament.
Used to also play the various "Age of" series games online as well, Age of Empires II, Age of Mythology, Galactic Battlegrounds, etc.
I don't play a lot of newer PC games, although I've checked out Prey and Doom 3. I have the PC version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that I play once in a while, though I've never checked out that online multiplayer mod for it, seems like that would be neat as hell. Hell, you can even play the console games online now with the emulators.
My kids play a lot of old school Doom online, oddly enough. There's all sorts of new mods for it that update the game engine and networking, such as Zdeamon, Doom Legacy, etc. So weird that a game so old is still being played so much, the servers always have plenty of people playing.

Speakin of quake, back when Central Highschool got that huge ass grant for all those computers like 10 years ago, I put quake onto a whole shitpile of floppy's and took it to school. Figured out how to hack into the Novell network and installed the game onto the server computers and made it distributable and runnable from from any computer on the network. We had a dedicated server up and had tons of fun those last few years of school.
I started a mission from a bunch of us nerds, we ended up loading that school network with all kinds of shit, grand theft auto, emulators, mp3s, the list goes on and on.
Only thing i miss about school is that wonderful, big, very unsecure computer network.
I got suspended at least a half dozen times for this stuff... When id get suspended, they'd put me in that little room, but that little room had ethernet ports, and I'd just take my laptop in and do what i was doing all day anyways, except without having to change classes all day =)
