I love both bands but I favor Maiden. Mainly because they weren't as rock'n roll as Priest. Songs like Hot Rockin just didn't quite do it for me. I like Painkiller a lot better but there's still that element of cheeze on some of the other tracks on that album.
My first Priest album was Point of Entry and I didn't get into it that much.
Maiden on the other hand sucked me in from the first song.
I got Live After Death and immediately saved up to buy the entire back catalog. I've been a big Maiden fan ever since.
I do like a lot of Priest and recognize their contributions to metal but if Maiden and Priest were playing on the same day and I had to choose one.
I would go with Maiden.

Saw Maiden open for Priest in '82. That show had an inestimable effect on my teenaged hard-rockin' mind. I was awestruck by Maiden's musicianship (and Eddie was waaay cool), who were on the Number Of The Beast tour, a classic, classic album. I couldn't believe Steve Harris was so fast on bass.
A bit later, I was talking to someone I'd just met, when Priest opened with Hellion/Electric Eye, very loud and impactful. I promise, I will never forget that moment. It was one of those watershed things where the stars align, and one awkward farm-boy got it. I was startled by the power of it, and I stood there with my eyes saucers for the next hour and a half. I was a Priest fan before that, but that show sealed the deal, both as a fan and as someone who wanted to do that.
I saw Priest a couple years ago, and they were just as good live, Halford was just amazing. I love Maiden, but Priest is still the sh*t to me.----->JMS

I love Priest, but Maiden will appear on my playlist before Priest every time.

I had the 1st 10 Judas Priest albums on vinyl and when Turbo came out, it was the first CD I ever bought. Then I had to go buy a CD player to play my new CD.

I like Iron Maiden a lot, but I grew up with Sabbath and Priest and these are still my favorite metal bands.

That's like choosing a favoriate kid. Priest started the whole Metal image with their Leather pants and biker image, as opposed to tight spandex. I love Maiden's first 2 albums, but their stuff w/ Dickinson is much better in the vocal department. Musically Maiden is better. Halford is the epitome of Metal singers though. Both bands have awesome guitar players. This is tough. I'd have to say Priest.

Judas Priest - Defender's of the Faith - Painkiller
Iron Maiden - Powerslave - Somewhere in Time

Both are great bands, but I have to go with Priest on this one. Everytime I listen to Unleashed in the East and Halford hits that one part in Victim of Changes that's like 473289743 octaves above middle C, I still get shivers. I think that Priest's music had more accessible hooks too.

I still like Maiden though. I think that my favorite album is Brave New World. There's some excellent guitar playing on that one.

LOL

One Shot at Glory is pretty damn cheesy, but I still like it for all of the neo-classical guitar shredding on it.

Don't get me wrong Glen Tipton shreds. The only problem is sometimes he's shredding cheeze.

Although I tremble at the day when we all have to "Run to the Hills", right now I'm feeling parched like I'm living in the "Desert Plains". And that's just like my life it seems flying on "Sad Wings of Destiny". Judas Priest because I like the majority of their music better, it just fits my style more - hits my nail on the head. And with that, I can overlook the "Judas" & the gay b.s. Well, gotta go check on my "Bloodstone"!!!!

Another ice cream debate. ;)

Priest is incredible, but for a band that wrote Victim of Changes, how the hell do you come out with Parental Guidance? Some serious cheese moments in their catalog... which is weird, because some of the best and baddest shit EVER is Priest.

Maiden rules all.

Neither. Just not a fan of either band.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.
