Do you think it is exactly what they (General Public) want? I think the reason this was so successful is that a bunch of musos were doing what they love to do along with a buch of other 'like minded' people (other musicians).

I have a feeling that the general public wouldn't see it the same way. The first Rockpage Benefit was successful because it was a clear cut jam session and all the musicians paid to be there. Take a close look at what it was and why it was a success.

I hate to be the bad guy here, but I would HIGHLY suggest that we take the suggestion that has been made here several times and keep it simple.

At this point it is a lot of fun for everyone. As soon as people have to start working to drag people in (non-musicians) it will not be fun anymore.

Yes I know there were some non-musicians there, but was was the ration, 10 to 1 or more?

It would be a shame to try to force something that turned out so well into a big headache and dissapointment. Keep it small and focused for now and it will grow naturally.

Thats why I asked a little earlier in this post if everyone prefered a big show or a get together type of thing. Maybe simple is the answer, simple and maybe more often, for fun, on the other hand if someone is ambitious and wants to take on the work thats another thing. So if somebody wants to organize something big let that be and you can still throw a small get together in at Peter C's on occasion just to bring the local musicians together.

I'm not married to the Y-Woodstock thing... I only suggested it because they already have the infrastructure in place... we'd just blow in and play, no muss, no fuss, and no financial risk on the part of the musicians. I saw two birds and one stone -- The YMCA needs local bands because they'll play for free, and we want a place to play. Plus , I personally think the Hurricanes and Hair Force One would absolutely kill at that show, and a good classic rock jam would do just as well. That said, I'll play anywhere you all want... the 29th piqued my interest in playing out again.
I certainly admit that Dwertz has a very valid point... much of the magic of that night was based on a cozy atmosphere, and a ten-to-one ratio of musicians to fans. And Peter C's way of making you want to be a part of it.
I dunno... maybe you're talking me out of it. Anything you guys decide will be okay with me, I'll be there.----->JMS

I certainly agree with that statement. That is kind of a different animal than the cozy jam session as you already stated. The Y-Woodstock event is a much more structured thing. More for the audience enjoyment than the musicians (not to say we didn't have fun).

Like any other 'normal' benefit, bands give of their time for the benefit. In the Rockpage benefit I think most people didn't even consider the fact that they were giving their time and money for the benefit. Most people were just anxious to jam with the other musicians. Talk about a win-win situation.

Here's a thought: You do it like they do at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction: The bands come and each do a short set as a band Then at the end of the night small groups of musicians who don't get to play together form an ad-hoc group to Jam. We get the public in to see their fave group and maybee some groups they've never seen (Like mine for example) and the musicians get to Jam with guys they've never played with before Win-Win.

You could do that anywhere it would work in a small place like Peter C's or one of the larger places or even out doors but the key is you need someone to coordinate the whole thing, somebody that every one respects like Ron or JP or somebody like that.

That's my 2 cents

Yeah, Bobby that's exactly what I meant. . . .NOT!

Wait a minute let me get some advil......

No, I was just bringing up the idea and recusing myself from actually having to do it, It wasn't a swipe at you or anybody. There are enough people out there sticking pins in Fat Vinny voodoo dolls, don't ya think ( I sure do).

What I should have said was "like Ron or Jp or anybody but me"

These are all great ideas, both indoors and outdoors. I think the outdoors would be great for summer time. I know that wilapalooza is always a HUGE success. Go all weekend and every musician should be able to come and play if they want. i do think the YMCA, City Limits, Aldo's, and Peter C's show would still be great until summer time hits. I think the crowd particpation ideas wre so ingenius!!
