What woodwork did you come from, out of the blue, just joining Rockpage, to make such a statement?Der Grund wrote:People who degrade women are frustrated, awkward, socially challenged males who simply project a false sense of hartred toward what they could never possibly attain. This is the reason they sit and poke at their keyboards in a world that poses no threat or rejection. Why would anyone seek musicians through such a medium? I have no idea. All the "bands" on this site owe millions of dollars in royalties to all the bands they "cover"(steal material from)Rockstars get girls......Right?....RIGHT!?.....(sob).Hell, the name "rockpage" itself is a rippoff of another site.

I was thinking...
You know, it takes a lot of guts to ask for someone to let you come sing with them. And it takes a lot of ballz to turn them down and spit in their faces after the offers come in. I'm not talking moxy praise, either. I'm talking about being full of yourself.
I didn't go to Berkley U. or anything like that (and thank God for that!) but I'd kill to get the chance to just go and sing with anyone. Singing makes me happy. In the car, in the shower, on a stage. Hell, I'm excited even if I'm just invited to a jam session in a garage to sing a song or two. Beer always tastes better during these times anyways. The Rattlers and Beyond Reason know what I'm talking about. Good friends, good times, family, beer and music.
So, any of you that are heart broken that your generous offers of jamming with queenie got turned down, give a holler. I sing fairly well, play the guitar good enough to amuse myself, and...well.. if you need to see any of my thousands of other qualifications ::rolls eyes:: I'll be glad to post them and humbly beg you forget that I'm not from Berkley U.
At the very least, I'm comic relief free of charge and I know how to fetch a pitcher of beer. And yes, they do call me wench...and I like it...

Eeps!
One more quick thing.. I am not picking on the music majors at Berkley U. I'm just joining in with the rest of y'all. So.. take no offense, please, since none was meant.

Well, let's just shoot that right down before it gets started...Der Grund wrote:All the "bands" on this site owe millions of dollars in royalties to all the bands they "cover"(steal material from)(Unoriginal bastards)
Every song that "famous" bands record gets copyrighted, and registered with one or both of the 2 worldwide publication organizations, BMI and ASCAP. This is to prevent other bands from "stealing" their songs.
BUT...radio stations, web broadcasters and bar owners join BMI/ASCAP and pay a monthly fee to play their music in their establishments. The fee gives them the liscence and right to have those songs played in the bar/club.
THEREFORE...cover bands are allowed to "cover" music, because they are breaking no laws. The fees are already paid, and the liscence is purchased.
So, "cover bands" can all say...Unoriginal this, pal.
W00T!!!
Dood...

Der Grund, do you realize a bar has to pay royalties for any kind of entertainment that is in their establishment, thus the bands that you're referring to do, in fact, get a cut of the money. Might not be much of a cut, but it's at least something. Ask any bar that you go into with a jukebox and/or entertainment if you don't believe me.

I've been paying dues in this business for 29 years in 7 states and still get treated like a POS by club owners and the press. Don't make the mistake of thinking that the entertainment business discriminates between race, gender, age or religion...it will be glad to frustrate and confuse you no matter who you are.
I wouldn't rely on an ad at an internet site to get a gig. The best bands are NOT formed by strangers. If you want in a band, go check out as many bands from the genre that you like as possible. Meet the musicians. Become part of the music scene. See if they'll let you sing a few with them. Before you know it, this band breaks up, that band breaks up and they remember you when they form new ones.
Most of all, LOSE THE VICTIM ATTITUDE...
Make sure you have a business card to give to them or they won't know how to get in touch with you.
