Fat Freddie's- Closed!

Post by Craven Sound »

We were scheduled to play there tonight, luckily we heard grumblings before heading out. Apparently, the place has been padlocked. It was fun while it lasted.

Our sales rep who handles Fat Freddy's account on Q94 just spoke with Fred's wife, and she confirmed it, they're closed. Bummer!

That was one place that the PLCB couldn't touch due to noise. There was a huge storage room behind the stage, the Dollar General immediatly beside, and about 200 feet of rooms and walls to the outside of the front. The other side was the kitchen. GRRR.

Fred must have had it erroneously listed in his book; he gave me that information direct over the phone on Wednesday. Strange.

Yep heard the advertisement for Felix and the boys too. Was planning on going up to see them. Bummer. There were rumors flying around about certain things with Freddy, but them closing down is a huge shock. I thought they were doing pretty good. Generation Gap played there a couple times, they did pretty good there. Too bad it's not still Chaser's, that was a nice place.

Oh well, lets see what else goes in there. Been way too many businesses in there since Chaser's closed.

I just cannot believe he did'dnt have the guts to even call and let us know. I understand things happen and that it may be out if his control. but they were still advertising us on the radio the day of the show. We heard a rumor that something wasnt right down there , and had we not checked into it we would have driven to the club prepared to play . only to find out the obvious. Its now 8.15 pm , just 2 hours and fifteen minutes till what would have been showtime and the guy has yet ( nor will he) call me and let me know the bar is shutdown. Oh well we have officially been shafted by 2 clubs in just three weeks. And from now on we will be contracting every job we play, all because of a few so called club owners.

I wonder how many disgruntled fans will show up at Fat Freddies for nothing...
You guys have a good band : I expect there will be a pile of unhappy fans.

Well, luckily we are at City Limits tomorrow night, so anybody that showed up there can go there and see us. Thanks for the kind words too. I hate when stuff like this happens. All it does ultimately is hurt those people that made the drive.

The shame of it is not that the gig is cancelled . . . that stuff happens, and we wouldn't have cared. The shame is that we didn't find out until the day of the show, when it's damn near impossible to schedule something else. It's nice to be sitting home posting on Rockpage right now, but we'd rather be playing. :D

maybe he was embezzling money from there also. It's hard to say, people will probably never know what happen. I think it's kinda funny though. People have been driving up all day to see if it was actually closed or not ..

I sorta liked the Italian Mob atmosphere in the place. Who knows. Maybe this isn't something that's for good. Could always be a temporary thing. If Peter C's can have about 3-4 farewell shows, anything's possible.

If they stay open for 15 years then maybe they deserve 3-4 farewell shows. 8)

A member of our band spoke with Fred the day the doors were padlocked
and he responded that he was "restructuring the business"? He also said
I'll be opening back upon Monday. Well, Monday came and went and the
place is still locked. Too bad, because it was nice to have another venue
in the area. We had a great time playing there while it lasted. Maybe
things will change, but unfortunately given Freds' track record this is
unlikely. I hope I'm wrong. By the way, Fred hasn't called us (since that)either to discuss any of our upcoming "scheduled" gigs.

Situations like this suck for bands & their fans.
