Troll, I so wish a Troller would come along, catch you in a huge net and thereby take you away...

I was the one "trying to eek out a decent living" at eventually, a "whole Dime" over minimum wage Troll, so shut the fuck up! Every year one of my duties was to sift through bags of receipts, separate them and prepare totals. All he had to do was hand a folder to his Accountant that actually filed the Income Taxes. He claimed everything you can imagine, right down to fast food and is by no stretch of the imagination a "little guy".

By the "big fish" claiming every little and big item as a "Business Expense", they are the ones who are, in fact, not paying any Taxes and are getting huge Refunds back every year...and they are not "sharing the wealth" with their employees who are helping them get and/or stay wealthy. You can't hack it on what they pay you? Go ahead, quit, they'll find some other schlep to take your place. Minimum wage is downright pathetic, but listen to Republicans bitch and moan if talk of raising it comes up. Wouldn't it be horrible if someone could support themselves on only 1 job...and to also be provided Health Insurance by the same employer? Such talk is heresy.

I looked up WORD as an acronym and got 9 matches:

Wechsler Objective Reading Dimensions
Water Oriented Recreation District
Work Order Record Details
Welsh Office of Research and Development
Wind Oriented Rocket Deployment
Wind Oriented Rocket Deployment
Web Outreach Redesign and Development
Work Order Record and Details
Wildlife and Outdoor Recreation Division

I give up. What does WORD mean?
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...

A few thoughts here:

1. As I've stated in a previous thread, a certain amount of socialism is not only desirable, but necessary. First, some socialism provides monetary injections into the circular flow model, money that otherwise wouldn't be in play for the economy. The economy grows when people spend money. The worst thing for the economy is when you save money. Some socialism creates a saftey net for people who are laid off. Also, some socialist programs can help stimulate people to better themselves. As many of you know, I'm a college student. When I'm done with my education, I'm going to be jumping about 6 or 7 seven tax-brackets, and I'll be a very productive member of society. I couldn't do that without four special letters: P-E-L-L

2. Government has become way too expensive and overbloated. This is the libertarian in me talking. We need to privatize certain sectors of the government and see if they could truly survive in a free-market. My hypothesis is that many wouldn't be able to. I'm sure everyone here knows some fucking idiot who has a cushy government job just because he/she kissed the right ass. My neighbor rides around in the woods on a four-wheeler all day and collects water samples. Why the hell are we spending tax dollars on this nonsense when we could be using it for better things like defense or the afermentioned roads?

3. Many people work their asses off, but still need assistance in the form of food stamps, energy caps, and subdisized housing. This is a very sad thing with no easy solution (I wish it were as easy as bumping up minimum wage). Should these people make as much as someone with an MBA? No. Do they deserve to live comfortably and with dignity? Yes!!! Remember, what usually determines a wage isn't the amount of labor, work, or education required to perform the tasks. It's based upon supply and demand. If you're a big fish in a small pond, congradulations: You can demand more money. I really don't know how I feel about this.

4. Abolish the capital gains tax! It's bullshit and prevents many businesses from being profitable.

5. After saying I would never work in the IT business again, I just accepted a part-time computer gig today. I guess I could use the cash. :P

ucjoe, you shut the fuck up, as you have no clue what the fuck you're talking about regarding me and my "entire" life, as usual. One year "we", with our combined incomes, had to pay in almost 2 grand. Itemizing, my employer got back scads more over what he paid in, so STFU. According to you, people who "don't pay Taxes", the elderly, Disabled persons, homemakers and the poor, don't have a RIGHT to Vote OR to Free Speech? Really?
Is that how the Fascists want to run things in the future? FUCK THEM and their "new world order" and if that's how any of you really feel, I'll tell you what I think to your face. Just because you "pay taxes", who do you think you are to try and dictate another's Rights? Ah, maybe you're of "The Constitution is just a God Damned piece of paper" school, like your puppet leader, Dubya. I wasn't always a peon in the monetary sense. I have always been a woman with a mind of her own who is not afraid to speak it, something the fanatical Right Wing fears and loathes. As a Vote for any other Party other than Democratic is a wasted Vote and will only help Republicans win again, I'll continue do what I can to get as many people, in a non-Evil way of course, to Vote Democrat for Congress, Senate and President and you can take that to the Bank. Well, it can't really be taken to the Bank...so sorry to disappoint the greedy.

You are living on another planet if you think that any employer of yours actually got back more in tax returns than what he paid.

I bet you and most liberals think that only the little people pay federal income taxes.

More than 50% of working Americans do not pay any fed income taxes, yet they felt bad, so not they get a refund of taxes they never paid in the first place.

The top 5% of wage earners in this country pay about 60% of fed income taxes.

Welcome to the Socialist States of Welfare Loving America.

My feet are here on planet Earth. I not only prepared the gross amount of Itemizations for the Accountant of my one Employer, also I Balanced the Business Checking Account of another, know what was paid in and what they got back. When "everything" is written off, (Going out to nighclubs and dinner, "Entertainment" expenses and a Cruise with a Vendor, a "travel/business expense", YEAH!), including vehicleS, one doesn't have to have had the Employers I've had, common sense will tell you it's true. We, most of the common folk, have our Standad Deduction, no way our Itemizations could amount to a hill of beans. I may not know all the expert ways these days that are used to get out of paying Federal Income Taxes and instead get HUGE refunds, but I was educated on the Lion's share. It's just not right. Well, yeah, it IS "Right".

Numbers and percentages supplied by the Government don't impress me.
What I've lived, what I know and all the people I know and care about - what they live with carries way more stock with me, period.

YR, it is impossible for a business to get a refund larger that the amount of taxes paid in.

The only people who manage to receive more in tax refunds than they paid in taxes are those low income people that qualify for earned income credit. We actually pay them to be poor! Sounds like a socialist trick to keep the poor poor and the elite elite.

Are you certain it's impossible lonewolf, or would you just like to everyone to believe it's impossible? I'm not speaking of Sales Tax and you know that. What about when "Depreciation" is claimed, every last gallon of gas used, "Losses" (Yeah, right!) on certain things, too? I guess I just dreamed it all...NOT! So many Schedules, so many loopholes. :) Between Business and Personal Income Taxes, when all is said and done, they raked it in and it's wrong.

For a while in this Great Country, things had begun to turn around, if you recall, more and more people were off of the Welfare Rolls.

Then Clinton left office.

Has it been the "plan" keep the poor, poor? By Jove, I think you've got it! "Oligarchy",
another one of those words that fit.

There has never been a greater spender of money than the U.S. government. There has never been a more wasteful government.

This government does not get all this money by taxing min. wage earners. Minimum wage earners do not pay fed taxes, and actually get an earned income tax refund.

But keep in mind, while income tax is progressive and those on top pay a higher percentage, sales tax is regressive and it's those who earn less who are actually paying more.

Right you are oh bass thumper. That is a state issue. Lynn Swann is on record as wanting to lower taxes and reduce the size of state government.

If we can reduce the size of the overbloated Harrisburg political machine called state government, maybe we can eliminate sales tax. Our nieghbor to the south, Delaware, has NO sales taxes. It can be done.

That is what is refreshing aboout Swann, His is NOT a lifelong politician.

No sales tax!!!??? Damn, I'd like to live in that place, if only because it would make paying for things easier (If I buy something for $4.99, all I have to do is hand the cashier a $5 and then get a penny back :D ).

I'd rather see them raise the sales tax slightly and eliminate this unfair property tax system we have. Everyone consumes, not everyone owns property, therefore, not everyone is taxed and we property owners pay for things like education (whether or not you have children) and the function of county and municipal government. Those who rent, simply don't pay. It's not the renter's fault, but it's reality.

Of course, those of us who own property never really own it, thanks to this bull$hit system.

That's what she said.
