electric guitar intone

Post by nighthawk »

ive been having a ton of trouble getting a guitar to intone. what i measure is 12 3/8" from nut to the 12th. from the 12th to the center of the bridge is about 12 3/8th. thing is everytime i try to intone this thing it comes up sharp. i have moved the adjustment all the way and still to sharp. its close but not close enough.

what the heck do i do?

I assume that you adjusted the saddle as far away from the neck as you could. Can you adjust the neck closer to the bridge? (Just a shot in the dark). Sometimes you can adjust the truss rod "flatter" to make the distance a flea pecker longer, but I suspect that might cause more trouble than it fixes.

If you are using an extra thick gauge string, it could be outside of your guitar's adjustment range. What brand of guitar is it?

yea it is as far away as possible. im using 10's. it just a squire tele lp hybrid. ive done as much tweeking as a can. ive got it about just 1 or 2 cents out on the low e and same one the g. the a string and b string are right on when adjusted all the way. the d string and the high e are adjusted a hair to the neck. this was accopished over the last hour. i ended up turning the saddles around backwards to get that little bit more on 3 of the strings.

im starting to think just let well enough alone. otherwise i might be looking at pulling the bridge mounts out, filling the holes and redrilling.

you got any sugestions?

do they make a bridge that will give me just a little more adjustment.

it is out just enough to notice.

All I can think is that although the neck and body are probably both 24-3/4" scale, but for whatever reason, they are just a little out of scale with each other. If that's the case, you may need to relocate the bridge.

Check to see if the bridge studs are bent a little toward the neck.

I've seen Squiers and generics do some impressive things when new, but I've also seen their parts do nasty things as they age.
