I just read that the Queen tour with Paul Rogers is going to Mellon Arena in March.

Anyone going?

My car just blew up lastnight so a ride to this would be great. I'll pay gas $ or food or something.

Yes Brian is the shit. I was listening to Killer Queen earlier today and the guitar tone is so awesome.

Oooh, I'd love to go to that. What night is it? As long as it doesn't conflict with a gig, count me in.

There was a whole concert from this tour posted on usenet a while back, and it was impressive. Many, many songs from the Paul Rodgers catalog in the set list. Wanna hear May play "All Right Now"? You will! May still does a long solo spot, too.

Jimmy, how does Paul do on covering Freddie's vocals. Freddie Mercury had a vocal range maybe unparralled in rock music (or any music). It may make parents think about correcting severe overbites in thier kids.

Before this tour, I thought David Bowie could do a decent job on vocals for Queen. He had a good range on the early Alladin Sane, Ziggy period.

Shit, they always have the best concerts on a week night when I can't go. Have fun. Paul Rodgers in my favorite. Love Bad Co.

I think that this would be a cool concert to check out; at least based on this year's tour, the shows seemed to be a good time.

Having said that, though, I recently checked out the 2-CD set from this year's tour, Return Of The Champions. Without the visual aspect and concert atmosphere to go with it, I would call the CD set "awkward" at best. Just from the audio, it becomes clear that Queen sounds better performing Bad Company and Free tunes than Paul Rodgers sounds singing Queen classics. It's a mismatch, and a clash of styles.

The concert would still be a good time, just for the atmosphere and historical aspect of it. If I have the opportunity, I wouldn't mind checking it out.

The "One Less Tear" show was GREAT!
I know that JP says the CD isn't that great, but that was recorded early on in the tour, wasn't it? I rather liked Paul's vocals on "Fat Bottom(ed?) Girls", that was released...any way, as I've said since that June day in 2004, whatever "it" is, Rodgers still has it! A Monday, huh? 2 days after my birthday...that would be a nice present to myself. :)

"ThrashKillYou", I truly do feel your pain...I was without a car for so long too, ...oh sweet Lordy! Not that my car now is that great, but it goes, for now! UCJoe, how many can fit in that MagicVan? :D

I would love to see Paul Rogers live. Bad Company is one of my all time favorite bands. Seeing Rogers with queen I think would be quite an experience.

I hear ya Yank, i've been stuck in my house for two days with no one to talk to. I'm looking for a new(er) car if anyone knows of any let me know. My mother being a huge Queen fan and being brought up on this stuff I need to see this. The more I think about it though I should have a car by then, by next month actually but I still hate driving in Pittsburgh so I can still provide $ for a ride.

My thoughts exactly, JP. The big difference is that Mercury (the trained vocalist style) nearly always held notes with vibrato at the end of a line whereas Rodgers (the rock singer style) quickly finishes the word at the end of a line. This is evident in "We are the Champions". It would probably work better if he would sing in the style of "Rock Steady".

I guess it would be extremely difficult to get a British classic rock star to fill Mercury's shoes. Robert Plant might be a better fit vocally, but would he have done it?

They should have had one of those reality shows to find a replacement for Freddie. Every night they would sing a different Queen song. I would probably have watched that one.

Does anybody watch those reality shows?
