To previous post....

Dude, have we ever met! Did I do something to you that I don't know about? If I did then I am sorry! I really am not trying to be negative here. I am sorry if talk of improving the scene upsets you. If you guys are doing good, then good! I find it hard to believe that your band could not be doing any better then they are right now, that they have achieved the pinnacle of the success that they have dreamed of. I got your point you like it just the way it is and anyone wants to chnage it they must be wrong? Sorry man, Idon't even know who you are, I certainly hope that its all good for you but I won't stop trying to make it better because its good for you, come on man where is your brotherly love?

I would venture to guess that most of my favorite RockPagers

(back to th thread sorry!)

Songsmith
FatVin
Yankee
Craven
Nighcrawler Steve
Bassist_25
Lonewolf

would agree that helping the scene around here is helping everybody. I know that you care about your fellow musicians and would not say "The scene is fine for me and that's all I care about" I know you would not think that way.

Anything we can do to help promote live music and entice more people out to area shows to see this music is going to do nothing but help musicians in the area! We need to reach into the living rooms of Blair county and get different people motivated, then the scene will grow and believe me Buddy if the scene grows you will benefit.

Vinny it is OK to vent! I have to believe that people are good if not somewhat misguided. I would hate to live in a world where most of the people cared about themselves above all. I will not mention any names or quote on this because it is getting ugly here. I don't want to attack anyone, not my style.

But I do think that we can make things better regardless of what anyone else says! How about it my favorite RP'ers!

Peace

Perhaps we should return to a strict nazi music forum... it seems like we all have a wee bit of troll in us because of this thread.

First, Vin, sorry for running over your dog ... I honestly thought it was a pothole. :?:

I know, as do most people here, that you’re a crusader, out to circulate petitions, march on city hall and make a change. That’s really cool and I support that. The point I was trying to make is there are too few of you who actually do something about it. Most just cry about it, put no thought into it and wonder why things suck so bad.

If you set out to do something — anything — you have to be prepared to take your lumps, be disappointed, pick yourself up after being put to the ground and make whatever you’re striving for happen yourself. There are too many people here on this forum and throughout society who expect a switch to be flipped and everything is right with the world.

Is the Altoona music scene a hotbed? Of course not. Is my band a “lock” in Altoona? Nope. Have we “achieved the pinnacle” of the success we’ve dreamed of? Hell no. But a wise man once told me (Jim Price), “If you want to be a success in Altoona, you have to play. And when the masses don’t turn out, you have to play some more. And after that, when people still aren’t coming out, play more.” And we’re making a dent (even in Huntingdon, if you can believe that ... songsmith, I know you can), and we plan on continuing to make the dent bigger, hence my statement, “It’s working just fine for us.” There are four quarters in a football game.

It seems like most play a show or two and cry, “What’s wrong with Altoona?”

Now, I’m not the “world traveler” you are, Vin, but I know that each town is different. However, my point is, people are generally the same. The trick is finding out how to appeal to each market, demographic and working from there. The problem is not with the people you’re trying to attract — people in Altoona want something to do just as much as people across the country do — you just have to figure out how to make them want to “do it with you.”

The scene is different for every band out there. We ALL have our work cut out for us to “make the scene better” but there’s no magic wand to wave to force people to realize how important what we do is, as a community. What I’m saying is marketing is up to each band. Don’t hate because someone is cracking a nut and you’re not. As I said before, “look in the mirror and be honest with yourself. If success is not coming, maybe it’s something you’re doing wrong.” Just a thought. (And when I say "you," "yourself" and "you're," I'm speaking in general terms ...)

Vin, I’ve had nothing but respect for you since the day I met you. Your product is definitely among the upper echelon. Again, I realize how wet behind the ears I am. I’m learning about this biz every day. We’ve played to the chairs plenty and we’ll do it more in the future, it’s a sure bet. What I’m not doing, however, is bawling about it. I refuse to do that. It’s this type of attitude that perpetuates the “status quo.”

As for tornandfrayed’s comments, I really don’t know what to say to you. Doesn’t seem like you get where I’m coming from. That’s cool. No hard feelings.

This weird crazy guy takes all of his clothes off, and wraps himself in Saran Wrap and walks into his psychiatrist's office:

Patient: Doctor, do you know what is wrong with me?

Doctor: No, but I can clearly see your nuts.
