So I get the 'talk' today. Hey Justin, not that it's an issue now or that it has been in the past, but we think that with your studio it's going to cause conflict in scheduling with the band, and my good friend wants to play with us and has already learned our setlist, so I think it's time we go our own ways. You're shit's the car.
Crazy, but what are you going to do? Bands come and go, but can you at least use a good excuse??

I told them it seems like their mind is obviously already made up.....they've had my replacement practicing with my gear. So I got my gear, came here to the studio, and started cutting a new solo acoustic demo.
Strange things:
1. I thought opening my own studio rather than working at Otherworld was going to benefit me so I could make my own schedules????
2. Bands come and go, so I'm not really to down about it. I've lost two really good friends over playing music, and I vowed that I would never let that happen again. With that said, I played with these guys, but never really got attached to them as friends. So....no hard feelings, whatever.

It sounds like you got a bum deal, but thankfully it doesn't seem to bother you that much. I too have found that there's always another gig. I just don't like it when people waste my time (a certain jam band from State College seriously wasted my time about two winters ago). Besides, owning your own studio has to be one of the coolest gigs around.

The place is getting close to opening, I'm pumped. I've been doing some small sessions just to keep fresh, but It's rolling along....
Currently have a 2642A Board that has been hot rodded by Circuit Bent in North Carolina to have the same ops amps as the Focusrite Octpres.
More mics than I know what to do with.
Mackie 824 studio monitors.
Tascam Headphones distribution (and phones)
All the power conditioners and racks.
Some cool outboard
Joe Meek Tube Preamp
Line 6 POD
Behringer V-amp Bass
DBX 266's
Marchall JMP-1
I've decided on using Sonar rather than Pro-tools even though I have my Digidesign certification. It's just ridiculus what Digi wants you to pay for an interface and upgrades (I have 6.7 and it was going to be $125 to go to 7.0 software only). Especially if you want to do more than 8 tracks simultaneously.
So for A/D, we got 2 (1 more soon) M-Audio Delta 1010 cards for 20 tracks of simult recording when using S/PDIF!
Anyone wants to start recording at the beach next summer, let me know. We'll get you a package deal. Session + Place to Play + Beach + Place to crash = Fun Summer Vacation

What do you think of the V-Bass? I know that's it's suppose to be somewhat of a POD clone (well, everything Behringer makes was stolen from somewhere else *LOL*). They're pretty fairly priced. I couldn't fit one now that I moved to a smaller rack, but I was wondering what they were like.

I think that you will be really happy with Sonar. The Producer 4.02 version is awesome! I have always thought that the design of Pro Tools pushed you into a non linear thought process on recording. I have always preferred the feel of tape which leads me to Sonar. The plugz are amazing and there are so many to choose from. Hope you have the best of luck and please continue to keep us posted!

Yeah I'm still working through Sonar and getting used to where things lay out. I've never worked much with tape other than mixing down, but I'm really digging this program over Pro-tools.
The layout in Track view is much more 'user friendly' not to mention the huge selection of VST and Direct X plugin's rather than searching (and Paying for RTAS compatible stuff).
Before Pro-tools, however, I used Tascam MX 2424's while working at Audacity in Florida. Talk about a non friendly program. SHEESH.
I have the studio version of Sonar and am kind of kicking myself that 5's out already. But I think the upgrade is fairly cheap.
