What the hell impedance are my headphones?????

Post by Mackovyak »

So I buy a new tascam headphones amp and there's a specific warning about using proper impedance headphones?????

There's a selector switch

LOW for headphones with lower than 100 Ohms

HIGH for headphones with anything higher

I don't know. I have a bunch of standard studio tracking headphones from AKG and JVC.....any ideas??

Look on side of your headphones earset. I've seen where typically they will have the impedence listed somewhere on them (on the case or magnet assembly). If not, hopefully you will have the box you received/bought them in which should include a specifications sheet with the impedence listed. You can also check the manufacturers web site for specs.

Hope this helps!

An ohm meter won't give you a fully accurate reading, but it will be close enough to tell if the nominal impedance is under 100 ohms.

The meter will read low (usually 10% to 25%) into an inductive load like a headphone driver.
... and then the wheel fell off.

Most tech spec's for these read 35 to 60 Ohms (at least they say on the web).

Oops, I ran it for an hour on high with those headphones in????

This thing is older and needs to have it's pots and connectors sprayed with some cleaner, but it's loud!!! No more drummers complaining about not hearing the 'click' or tracks.
