Hurricane, Earthquake, or Snow....

Which would you choose to live in and why? For me, I hate snow with a passion thus one of the reasons why I moved to Florida. Hurricanes suck, but they only last a day at a time. However, this year blows because of how many storms hit where I'm living. We felt the affects of Dennis, Katrina, Rita, and Wilma. My view so far is I'd rather deal with a quick passing hurricane than a long assed season of cold weather and snow.

never heard of too many "category 5" snowstorms hitting into PA, although an arguement could be made for the storms of 93, 95, 96, 99, and the st. valentines weekend massacre of 2003 2 snowstorms in 1 weekend - and i could very easily see one of these storms dicksmacking us this season.. that said..

i'd rather live through a snowstorm and a hurricane - because you still have atleast hope of control throughout those - during an earthquake.. you're at nature's mercy - you have no control because it's the god damn earth rising up against you.. and who are you to think you can defeat the earth (well i guess with aeresol cans, car exhausts and plastic - we are defeating the earth.. for now, the earth will beat us in the end)

i cant think of a perfect place to live. i can say that i REALLY hate snow and rain. anything is better than this!

I would take an earthquake over the others. Do any of you work with people who LOVE snow and get all excited about it, and you have to drive an hour to work over a mountain? I do. GGRRRrrrrrrrrrrr

the perfect place doesnt exist..

Seattle has rain 364 and a half days a year..
Texas cooks during the summer
Florida gets Hurricanes, and a daily tropical storm at 4:30
Maine may as well consider itself part of Quebec
the Northeast has no climate control - it can be 110 in the summer and negative 20 in the winter
the Great Lakes region has ungodly wind, and lake effect snow
the midwest gets tornadoes.
Los Angeles has NO Weather.. but gets earthquakes
the equator is hot and muggy all the time

i think we're fucked no matter what

i dont like snow, however i would rather go through a snow storm then a hurricane or earthquake. Atleast with a snow storm you still have your house and all your belongings and job.

I agree that every area has its problems as far as weather and other natural phenomena are concerned...

I dislike snow when I have to drive in it, and ice storms suck big time. And I know I'll be gripping for spring time by the first week in January. But unless you get a "Blizzard of '93" type of event, or a storm that brings down trees and power lines like the one ice storm last winter, most winter snows are harmless as far as overall damage, other than traffic wrecks (caused by idiots who don't slow down when the roads are slick). The average snow event doesn't put your life in danger, unlike most hurricanes and severe earthquakes.

Actually, as far as this coming winter, I'm more concerned about heating oil and natural gas prices than I am the snow. And the flu.

I couldnt agree more.. although I see atleast 3 snowstorms of over a foot or more of snow hitting us this winter (and i see atleast 1 storm that will drop anywhere between 24-30 inches) and with it expected to be colder than ever this winter - im worried for the elderly and the infants - natural gas prices are going to go thru the roof, people arent going to be able to afford it - and some will freeze..

the flu - yeah this bird flu shit in Europe is scaring the pants off me - that shit travels fast - just 2 weeks ago it was in china, and it's already in europe. My prediction.. first confirmed case of bird flu hits U.S. soil by late december.. latest..

bible thumpers would say this is another sign of the end times.. i just think this is a result of what happens when the chinese people sleep too close to their animals...

I would rather have snow than to worry about losing my house and everything once a year. Earthquakes? Well, you never know when one will hit...I suppose we could get an earthquake at some point, but that doesn't scare me as much as say, and Alien invasion...but I can deal with the snow...What would be the best is to have a Summer home in this area and a Winter home in Florida or somewhere like that...then you don't have to worry about snow, hurricanes, or earthquakes.

Snow. I enjoy the Seasons, I just wish Autumn lasted longer before heading right into Winter, sheesh! ZappasX, I'd DESPISE having to drive an hour in it every day and make sure I had a 4 WD vehicle!
If you have someone to get "Snowed in" with, other than kids and pets, that can make Snow even more "fun".

I've felt an earthquake before and it is some scary shit. It wasn't even major, just a snap and a couple rolls. I was working in Costa Mesa in 1989 when the big one hit San Francisco, so I was about 300 miles from the epicenter in the Santa Cruz mountains.
When the terra firma you've lived on all of your life moves, it is very, very unsettling. You're then walking on razors for a while waiting for aftershocks.

In 1993 when we had two major snow storms, I was trapped at Jeff Wallack's house both times. We walked for beer, got loaded and had a great time. I remember stepping off of Scott Everhart's porch and being waist deep in snow.

I can't say much about hurricanes, since I've never been through one.

I hope I don't sound ignorant with this question, because I don't pretend to be a weather expert, but why do news stations flash "Severe Thunderstorm" warnings across the TV and radio? I know that the wind can be somewhat damaging, but you'd swear that the fucking apocolypse was coming with the way they flash those things over the media. I don't give a shit about some rain; warn me about floods, tornados, hurricanes, etc.
